It’s been less than six months since Scotty McCreery and his wife Gabi McCreery, welcomed their first son, a boy named Merrick Avery — whom they call by his middle name — into the world. And that means the newfound parents are likely still being showered with loads of gifts for their sweet bundle of joy, ranging from necessities to toys to personalized keepsakes.
Randy Travis And His Wife Mary Got McCreery’s Son A “Very Special” Christmas Gift
And it turns out one of those gifts arrived just in time for the holidays, and it was given by none other than Randy Travis.
“Randy and Mary Travis sent Avery a little gift for Christmas,” McCreery recently told Lon Helton while co-hosting Country Countdown USA. “Avery’s nursery is Winnie The Pooh-themed. So they sent him a little memory box thing that had all the Winnie The Pooh quotes on it and Avery’s name. Really special, really sweet.”
McCreery is currently back to touring following paternity leave, but he did manage to get in some family time over Christmas break. The “It Matters To Her” singer said he spent time in New Orleans with the in-laws after he and his wife visited his side of the family in North Carolina over Thanksgiving.
“It was my favorite Christmas I’ve ever had,” McCreery shared. “Getting to spend it with [Avery], we actually went to New Orleans, which is where my wife’s family is. It was his first flight, and he slept the whole way. We’re very lucky about how chill he is. He goes with the flow. He smiles and giggles. Even his little toots are the cutest thing ever.”
McCreery Is Taking His Son, Merrick Avery, On The Road With Him
And, as his schedule gets busier, McCreery won’t have to worry about being away from little Avery. The American Idol season 10 winner, who, last year, celebrated his fifth No. 1 said he has already prepared for having his baby on the road with him.
“I was going to be really sad to hit the road and leave him behind. So we got a baby bus for the tour, and we’re bringing Avery out. Once March hits, it will be the rest of the year,” McCreery said.
Furthermore, McCreery admitted that he’s already gotten used to some of the duties that come with fatherhood.
“I’d never changed a diaper until him. He hasn’t had the stinky ones, but I know they’re coming,” he added. “My wife’s a pediatric nurse, and she explained everything to me. She made me more comfortable with all the things we have to do with babies.”
“Everything changes, your perspective, your priorities. For me, it’s all about Avery, he comes first,” McCreery added of his son, who was born on October 24, 2022, at 4:34 am. “We like to golf, but I’m not playing golf now. He has really changed my world for the better.”
