After ending 2022 with five consecutive hits under his belt, Scotty McCreery is looking to add to that number with more music on the way.
The country music artist, 29, says he is already laying out the details for a new album. And he plans to incorporate some of the more recent aspects of his personal life into the new project. They include becoming a father for the first time and seeing his wife, Gabi McCreery, step into the role of motherhood after the couple welcomed their firstborn, a boy named Avery into the world on October 24, 2022, at 4:34 a.m. in a hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina.

“I thought I loved her (Gabi) a lot before. You know, she’s the mother of my son, and now I’m finding that I love her even more,” McCreery tells Music Mayhem of his childhood sweetheart, whom he married in 2018. “She’s a champ. She’s working so hard and doing so great as a mom already. So, I’ll be writing for sure a lot of songs about her and definitely tying the kiddo into some songs. Maybe writing for him too. So, I think it’s all great things right now. We’re in a great season.”
McCreery has been known to share his personal stories through his music. In the past, he has written songs that focus on his life like “This Is It” – a track from his successful fourth studio album, Seasons Change. The romantic ballad tells the story of his proposal to Gabi. The American Idol alum wrote the song just two weeks before the couple got engaged.
Meanwhile, McCreery’s more recent track, “Small Town Story,” breaks down his life from childhood to adulthood into chapters leading up to his next stage of becoming a father for the first time.
In the summer of 2022, McCreery told Audacy’s Katie Neal that he was unfamiliar with penning tunes about fatherhood and was looking forward to conquering that challenge.
“I’ve written a lot of life songs. I have never written a baby song before. So that’ll be a first. It’ll be exciting,” McCreery said.
Fans, of course, will have to wait a little longer to hear McCreery’s new material as he is still finessing the songs that will fit the anticipated body of work.
“I’m in the writing process. We have not recorded anything yet,” McCreery explains. “We’re making decisions on what songs will make it, but we’re in that creative time, which is always a fun time to be in. So I’m writing a lot of different songs I’ve [never] written before. When it comes to where I’m at in life right now. It’s exciting. It will be out hopefully [this] year, but not early [this] year. It will take some time. But we’re starting that process. So I can’t wait.”
McCreery’s upcoming project will follow his recent album, Same Truck: The Deluxe Album, which includes his fifth studio album, Same Truck, plus six additional songs. McCreery’s Same Truck album produced two No. 1 hits, “Damn Strait” and “You Time.” Before that, his album Seasons Change boasted three top hits, including “In Between,” “This Is It,” and “Five More Minutes.”
After ending his parental leave, McCreery is gearing up to hit the road for his headlining Damn Strait Tour. The 20+ date trek begins on January 20 in Hinton, OK, at Sugar Creek Casino and currently runs through April 30.
