Elle King started 2023 on a high note, co-hosting and taking the stage at New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash.
The chart-topping singer/songwriter continues to take the new year by storm with the release of all new track, “Tulsa,” from her highly anticipated forthcoming album, Come Get Your Wife. The project is set to release on Friday, January 27.
Co-penned by King alongside Ella Langley, Bobby Hamrick and Matt McKinney, the bodacious track features background vocals from Ashley McBryde with John Osborne shredding on the guitar.

“Before I woke up this mornin’, I done knew where he went / He hid the keys to my car, smoked my last cigarette / Well, that good-for-nothin’ mothertruckin’ son of a gun / I don’t need to know her name ’cause I can tell which one,” King sings in the bold first verse. “He went back to Tulsa/ Put some miles on that adios Tacoma / And I ain’t talkin’ Oklahoma / ‘Cause it ain’t what you think.”
While the city in Oklahoma has been name-dropped in a number of country songs over the years, King is the first to recognize Tulsa for its spelling in reverse in her edgy track.
“But if you spell it back-to-front, you gonna know what I mean,” King sings of the song’s chorus.
“Tulsa is a song about doing someone wrong,” explained the singer. “This is not about tearing women down but it’s about putting the blame on the wrongdoer. If a man is cheating on you, it’s not her fault because there are a million other girls he would do it with. And he’ll just cheat on her too. It’s a song about uniting and not taking shit from this real P.O.S.”
King continued, “We wrote the song in less than an hour and it’s so raucous and fun. We’ve been playing it on the road and it’s the third song in our show now. It’s fun for us and the crowd!”
