Luke Combs shocked the sold-out crowd at Country 2 Country (C2C) Festival in London on Sunday evening (Mar. 13) with a surprise duet with “Shivers” singer Ed Sheeran.

The country superstar and North Carolina welcomed Sheeran to the massive O2 Arena stage to perform a duet of Sheeran’s “Dive,” a track, co-written Sheeran alongside Benny Blanco and Julia Michaels, that Combs often covers that appears on Sheeran’s third studio album, ÷ (Divide).

Combs and Sheeran flawlessly traded verses of the fan-favorite tune before harmonizing their voices together on the track’s chorus. Throughout their entire collaborative performance, the capacity crowd can be heard roaring along to every lyric.

“So don’t call me baby / Unless you mean it / Don’t tell me you need me / If you don’t believe it / So let me know the truth / Before I dive right into you,” the superstar pairing sings during the track’s chorus.

“Boys I don’t know how we follow that,” Combs said with a laugh as Sheeran exited the stage.

Watch their one-of-a-kind duet from C2C Festival in London below.

Combs has previously covered Sheeran’s “Dive” during concerts of his own, which was met with great reception by fans. After performing the song live, he later released the cover as a Spotify Originals Exclusive.

In 2018, Sheeran also shared an Instagram story singing Combs’ “When It Rains It Pours” in the midst of a down pour rain in a tropical location. Since Sheeran and Combs have shared covers of each other’s songs, fan have been begging for the two superstars to join forces for an episode of CMT Crossroads, which typically pairs a country superstar with an artist of the genre.

Before heading to London, Combs, who will soon welcome his first child later this year with his wife, Nicole Hocking Combs, sat down and chatted with Absolute Radio Country, where he revealed that he was excited to head across the pond for several reasons.

Not only was he excited to perform for his fans overseas, but he also was looking forward to setting up a writing session with Sheeran as they previously had plans to write some music together, however, the global health crisis brought that idea to a halt.

“We hung out last time I was [in the UK] but he wasn’t on an album cycle that time,” Combs shared. “I think he is doing like 55 stadiums just in Europe, that’s just part of the tour … I’m definitely going to shoot him an email and see if he is around … he is a great man.”

Combs added, “We were going to [write together] but the COVID thing screwed our whole plans up on that but maybe one day, hopefully one day.”

Additionally, Luke Combs is currently working on his third studio album, which is expected to be released later this year.

On Thursday morning (Mar. 3), a fan named Alex Breton randomly tweeted Combs, asking him “How are those final touches on LC3 coming along, @lukecombs?” The country superstar couldn’t help but to reply and keep fans on the edge of the seats as they await the release of his highly-anticipated new project.

“We’re right at the finish line on em,” Combs said in response to Breton, before adding, “I’m real proud of these tunes. Can’t wait for y’all to hear em.”

So it seems the project is nearing the final stages of the recording process and could be out sooner than we think. Who knows, while Combs and Sheeran never have confirmed if they wrote any songs together, maybe we will see a collaboration or song co-written by Sheeran on Combs’ forthcoming new project.
