As the spring due date approaches for Luke Combs and his wife Nicole Hocking Combs, the nervousness and excitement are starting to set in for the first-time parents.

During a recent Saturday night performance on stage at the Grand Ole Opry, Combs took a moment to chat with host for the night, Bobby Bones, after receiving a standing ovation. Combs was prompted to share the first emotion that comes to mind in regard to his new parenting duties.

“I’m a little nervous,” he admitted. “I got a lot of stuff to do, I got a lot on my plate…  I’m uncovering things every day. I’m buying all kinds of clothes I didn’t know existed.”

Sporting his usual shot-sleeve, black button down Columbia PGF, Combs joked that “they don’t make PGF’s that small, but I’m gonna try to get them to make one.”

“I’m excited, we’re excited,” the country singer, 31, added before discussing his to-do list ahead of the baby’s arrival. He revealed that the process of putting the nursery together has begun and apparently, it’s been a learning process for the “Doin’ This” singer.

“It’s a lot of stuff man,” he continued. “I didn’t know what a bassinet was. But that’s a thing, apparently. A lot of new words I’m learning.”

As a new dad, Combs is looking for any advice he can get from his friends on the preparation side of things. “It’s more like, ‘What do I need to be doing right now?’ I realized the baby just doesn’t need me at all,” he joked. “I’m just there to clean stuff, I think… It comes out and it’s like, ‘Why are you mouth breathing all over me? I don’t need you to be around.’”

This conversation comes about a month after Combs revealed to his followers that him and Nicole are expecting their first child – a “lil dude” as he said on Instagram.

Sharing a series of photos with him and his wife holding the ultrasound image of their baby on the way, Combs wrote “Here we go y’all! Lil dude Combs is coming this Spring! Couldn’t be more excited to start a family with this babe. It’s gonna be a hell of a ride.”

His lovely wife Nicole also shared the same heartwarming photos on her own Instagram page, writing, “this may be the best year yet. Baby BOY Combs coming spring 2022!! We are so incredibly excited & thankful.”

Combs and Nicole began dating in 2016 after meeting at the Key West Songwriter’s Festival. After the festival, Hocking and Combs started spending more time together and eventually began dating. In 2018, Combs planned an elaborate proposal that ended up going south after a hectic day of moving. Weeks later, Combs and Hocking revealed their engagement with fans via Instagram.

The couple tied the knot in August 2020 after changing their wedding plans a few times due to the ongoing global health crisis. They exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony at their home in Florida surrounded by a small group of friends and family.

In between releasing new music and celebrating his recent ACM nominations, Combs took to social media to express his love and wish a happy Valentine’s Day to his wife and future mother of his child.

He wrote, “Happy Valentine’s Day to this amazing woman. Getting to spend everyday with you is a blessing I will never take for granted. Thank you for making me laugh, making me smile, being there for me, and loving me for who I am. I can’t wait to raise our family with you and spend a whole lot of more years together. I love you.”
