In March of 2022, we spoke with Chase Matthew about his aspirations to one day perform at the Grand Ole Opry, to which he replied, “God has a plan. I’m speaking it into existence now. Someday I WILL play the Opry. I’m a native from Nashville. I’ve worked hard for it. Sooner or later in God’s timing it will become real.” Fast-forward nearly one-year later and his aspirations are now becoming reality.

The news of Matthew’s forthcoming Opry debut comes days after the release of his radio-ready heartbreak anthem, “The Way I Am.”

Co-written by Chase Matthew alongside Hunter Phelps, Brock Berryhill, and Andy Albert, the radio-ready anthem finds the Nashville-area native crooning over an ex in the aftermath of a breakup.

“Breakups are never easy,” Matthew admitted. “I think we’ve all had those moments where you kind of lose yourself in a heartbreak — I know I have. When we wrote this one, we really wanted to explain that vulnerability because it’s just so relatable. ‘The Way I Am’ is one of my favorite songs I’ve released in a long time, and I’m so pumped for everyone to finally get to hear it.”

Throughout the tune, Matthew sings about drowning his sorrows while struggling to get past heartbreak.

“I don’t like pointing fingers / but girl you’re the reason / that brown bottle keeps coming off the shelf / might be holding the shot glass / paying the bar tab / but this broken heart didn’t break itself / you say I ain’t the same guy you knew before / I don’t even know me no more,” Matthew sings on the track’s first verse before exploding into the tune’s anthemic chorus.

“The Way I Am” follows Matthew’s viral hit “Love You Again,” which sparked the Black Dress Trend on TikTok and amassed millions of streams since its release in December of 2022.

Chase Matthew Has Lots Of New Music On The Way

“The Way I Am,” “Love You Again” and “She Loves Jesus” are the first of many country bangers Chase Matthew is releasing this year.

The viral country hitmaker is currently working on a brand-new album and has teased several new songs on social media, including the fan-favorite tune, “Downtown,” and many others.

Last year (2022) was a banner year for Chase Matthew, not only did he independently release his debut album, Born For This, but he also sold out his first headlining tour and scored his first-ever RIAA Gold-certified single with his viral hit, “County Line.”

Following the success of his debut project, Matthew announced his new partnership with Warner Music Nashville. This past year has, undoubtedly, set Matthew up to be one of the hottest rising country artists for 2023.

Additionally, Chase Matthew recently kicked off his 18-date headlining Love You Again Tour on January 27 at Sadler Ranch in Fernandina Beach, Florida. The trek continues through April 22, where the Love You Again Tour will wrap up at the Dusty Armadillo in Rootstown, OH.

Matthew is also simultaneously embarking on a co-headlining tour with Kidd G.

In addition to his headlining tour and co-headlining tour with Kidd G, Chase Matthew will also perform at several upcoming festivals, including Tailgate N’ Tallboys IowaTailgate N’ Tallboys Bloomington, Country Concert in Ohio, Country Thunder Saskatchewan, Country Thunder Wisconsin, Chords in the Corn and more.
