Scotty McCreery is embracing his role as a doting dad in every way possible. The country music superstar, who welcomed his first-ever bundle of joy, a boy named Avery, into the world in late October of 2022, took some time off over the holidays to focus on parenthood.
After taking parental leave, McCreery hit the road, embarking on his Damn Strait Tour with his 5-month-old son in tow. Now, the 29-year-old North Carolina native says he’s beginning to write songs about stepping into the joys of being a dad. In fact, folks can look for songs all about the newest addition to the family when it comes to McCreery’s next project.
“Definitely Gonna Be Some Baby Songs” On The New Album
“There’s definitely gonna be some baby songs, as you could guess,” McCreery recently told Taste of Country of his next collection, which will be the follow-up to the deluxe version of the singer’s Same Truck album. “My music, for sure, has, kind of, leaned a little bit into that autobiographical stuff.”
“Something that I learned about music is how alike we all are rather than different. When I talk about my life, I could be talking about thousands of other people’s lives, and they relate to it, too,” he continued. “So there’ll be a lot of life stuff. Just about not taking things for granted, and that’s where I’m at right now — just appreciating this new stage of life and new fatherhood.”

Writes Songs About Real-Life Experiences
McCreery is no stranger to penning songs that deal with his real-life experiences. In fact, that seems to be what he is known for best, as he previously wrote a song inspired by the death of his grandfather called “Five More Minutes,” which recently inspired a viral TikTok trend “This Is It,” meanwhile, gives fans a glimpse into his romantic love story with his wife and childhood sweetheart Gabi McCreery, whom he wed in 2018. Both tunes were No. 1 hits and appears on McCreery’s 2018 album, Seasons Change.
While fans have to wait a little longer to hear some of McCreery’s new material, the American Idol alum says he is already tugging at Gabi’s emotions – as well as his own – with some of the unreleased tracks.
“Definitely some waterworks for some of the songs, for sure,” he said. “There’s one song that talks about [Avery] leaving his little boots up next to mine on that mat — that kind of thing. Just the way it progressed to get there — oh my gosh, that line got me. You know there are nuggets here and there in the songs that are so sweet.”
Previously Teased Plans To Include Songs About His Wife And Son On New Album
McCreery previously teased plans to release another album. And, aside from opening up about his son in his new tracks, he also revealed there will be material on the forthcoming release that focuses on Gabi’s new role as a mother.
“I thought I loved her (Gabi) a lot before. You know, she’s the mother of my son, and now I’m finding that I love her even more,” McCreery previously told Music Mayhem. “She’s a champ. She’s working so hard and doing so great as a mom already. So, I’ll be writing for sure a lot of songs about her and definitely tying the kiddo into some songs.”

At the time, McCreery added, “We have not recorded anything yet. We’re making decisions on what songs will make it, but we’re in that creative time, which is always a fun time to be in. So I’m writing a lot of different songs I’ve [never] written before. When it comes to where I’m at in life right now. It’s exciting.”
In The Midst Of His Headlining Tour, Will Join Brooks & Dunn Later This Year
McCreery – and his loving family – are currently on the road as part of his Damn Strait Tour, which stops in 22 cities before wrapping on April 30.
After his tour, he will pick things back up, providing direct support on Brooks & Dunn’s 2023 Reboot Tour. The trek, which kicks off on May 4 in Kansas City, also features supporting act Megan Moroney. Brooks & Dunn’s 2023 Reboot Tour will wrap on June 17.
