Many fans were introduced to Cassadee Pope in 2012 during her victorious run on Season 3 of The Voice. But, long before the once country singer became the franchise’s first female champion, she was in a pop rock band called Hey Monday. The group performed at music festivals like The Warped Tour and opened for bands like Fall Out Boy and We The Kings.

Pope has always had a deep appreciation for the genre she first stepped into when she decided to pursue a career in music.  And, while it’s clear she fits seamlessly into the country genre, she has made the firm decision to return to what has always been familiar territory.

“Moving Away From The Country Space”

In late 2022, Pope announced plans to step away from country music and return to her pop/rock roots.

“I’m moving away from the country space and going more into the pop rock where I came from initially,” Pope told PEOPLE back in December while also opening up about her genre-bending duet with Levi Hummon titled, “RSVP.” “I’m glad that ‘RSVP’ kind of straddles those lines. It’s a great kind of bridge for me between what I did and where I’m headed with my next solo project.”

Indeed, “RSVP” is a considerable marking point for Pope’s venture back into old waters as she continues to embark on the next phase of her career. And, with that, Pope can’t help but be grateful for those who have chosen to walk that path with her.

The 33-year-old Florida native took to TikTok to thank fans for supporting her as she eases into her next chapter. In her message, she included her “Wasting All These Tears” track, which can be heard playing in the background, and nostalgically reminisced over the journey that brought her to where she is today.

Cassadee Pope Says “There’s A New Chapter Ahead”

“Hearing this song reminds me of how far I’ve come,” she writes in the uploaded clip. “There’s a new chapter ahead, and I can’t wait to share it all with you. Thank you for sticking with me all these years through all the changes, pivots, and hurdles. Moving into a totally different genre would feel scary, but it’s one I’ve been in before and have never stopped loving. Stoked to be coming back home to pop/rock. Let’s do this.”

Below the post, one fan commented, “Girl. Please redo this song alternative! It would be even better.”

“Working on it!” Pope replied.

Returning To Pop Rock Genre, Announces New Single

While it’s unclear when a reimagining of “Wasting All These Tears” will happen, Pope has announced a brand-new single titled “People That I Love Leave.”

Arriving on April 14, the tune will mark the kick-off to Pope’s next musical chapter. Pope co-wrote “People That I Love Leave” with Ali Tamposi, Roman Campolo, Nick Long, and Andrew Luce. And the track was produced by Cassadee, Dan Swank, Mason Sacks, Hosu Yoon, and Luce.

“This next project has an authenticity that I’ve never been able to tap into before now. Pop and rock music is such a staple in my creativity, so to fully return back to that genre feels special and like coming back home,” Pope says in a press release. “I wanted to lead with a high energy, uptempo song. I love jumping around on stage and always have since Hey Monday. This song gives people a pretty clear picture of where I’m headed sonically and energetically.”

After The Voice, Pope Made Her Country Music Debut With “Wasting All These Tears”

Shortly after coming off of The Voice, Pope drew fans in the country sphere with her country music debut, “Wasting All These Tears,” from her debut album, Frame by Frame. The certified-platinum track became her first top 10 hit on Billboard’s Country Airplay Chart. Pope went on to score her first No. 1 smash in 2016 with “Think of You,” a duet with Chris Young.

In an Instagram post dated March 25, Pope looked back on how fast her “Wasting All These Tears” caught fire.

“9 years ago, I found out “Wasting All These Tears” went platinum. This song changed my life. And I have a feeling it’s not done changing it 😉,” she captioned alongside a photo of her holding up her accomplishment.

Dyed Her Hair Pink, Reflected On Ninth Studio Album

Additionally, last week Pope, who recently dyed her hair bright pink, also took a moment to reflect on her latest tour in support of her ninth album, Thrive – which showcased her blending a mix of country and pop punk. The Thrive Tour signaled a step away from country/pop – what Pope has referred to as “y’alternative.”

“As I close out this “y’alternative” (a mix of country and alternative) chapter, I’m reminded of these beautiful moments this time last year on my Thrive tour,” Pope writes. “That tour fed my soul after 2 years of not being able to do what I love most… playing shows for all of you. Thank you to everyone who came out and everyone who continues to be steadfast supporters in my life. I’m about to turn it up to 11, so get ready 😎.”
