James Maslow is best known for his years in the spotlight as a member of the boy band Big Time Rush, but he’s also been navigating various other projects, from launching a solo country music career to playing various roles as an actor in a handful of films.
Now, the 35-year-old multi-talent is preparing to share the most personal chapter of his life with fans through his upcoming new memoir, an untitled book scheduled for release in 2027 through Zibby Publishing. And although Maslow has built a career in the spotlight, performing for sold-out crowds around the world, he admits putting his life on paper has been a far more intimidating experience.
“It’s the most vulnerable and scary thing I’ve ever done,” Maslow told Music Mayhem in an exlclusive interview during 2026 CMA Fest.
Maslow’s memoir will extend beyond his music career, tracing back to his early struggles, past trauma, Jewish identity, and his rise to stardom, and sharing experiences that shaped his beliefs, values, and outlook on life. The star says readers can expect deeply personal stories from his youth through the present day, including moments he has never shared publicly.
“The music is going to start to tell my beliefs, my values, how I see the world, how I want to encourage people and bring them together, and how I am patriotic and grateful to live in this country,” Maslow said of his solo work in the country genre before segueing to his forthcoming memoir, noting that the two projects perfectly complement one another.
“The book is going to talk about stories I’ve never shared with the world, from being a kid to where I’m at now,” he continued. “It’s going to talk about how I’ve chosen, when it was hard, and continue to choose to become the man that I am and the man that I want to show up as for Caitlin Spears [his fiancée], for my fans, and for the world.”
According to Maslow, the memoir explores his journey from a childhood he has described as “less than idyllic” to the resilience he built through those experiences, revealing how they shaped the person he is today. The book also delves into his move to Nashville, his evolution into country music, and his relationship with Spears.
“I hope people read the book. They’re definitely going to be surprised by some of the stories I’m sharing,” he said. “It’s the most vulnerable and scary thing I’ve ever done, but I also hope they come away from reading it thinking, ‘Dang, if he can choose to do that and look at where he’s at, I’m motivated, so can I.’”
Maslow first announced the memoir on social media after signing with Zibby Media.
“I’m thrilled because I’m writing my first book, and I found a publisher with the team at Zibby Media that resonates with the story that I want to tell and seems to know who might want to read this story…,” he shared in a video post on Instagram. “[I’m] admittedly slightly nervous because this is my story, the good, the bad, and the ugly, the hard times that made me the man that I am today and shaped how I see and walk through the world and of course the highest of highs where there is no shortage of stories that are worthy of sharing.”
“This process already has been the most personal and at times the most brutal, but ultimately, it’s a tale of resilience and of hope and one that I hope I can inspire not just my fans but anybody who has dealt with a less than idyllic childhood but has persevered and grown into somebody stronger because of it,” Maslow continued. “Now I have a lot of work to do to finish this up, bring it to its full and final form, but myself and the Zibby Media team will be keeping you guys apprised of the progress. We will have my currently untitled memoir out for you all to read next year in 2027.”
Zibby Media also celebrated the announcement with a joint Instagram post featuring Maslow and publisher Zibby Owens, writing, “Thrilled to be publishing a memoir by @jamesmaslow, a true multi-hyphenate: actor, singer, producer, entrepreneur, Jewish advocate, and more! His painful past fueled his sense of purpose. Stay tuned.”
The memoir is expected to arrive sometime in 2027.
