After successfully topping the charts five times in a row, Scotty McCreery is en route to add another No. 1 song under his belt with the release of his brand-new single, “Cab In A Solo,” which arrived on August 18 via Triple Tigers.
The tune brings forth a melody that resembles a country swing and highlights the ‘90s era of country music with steel guitar and a repetitive guitar riff. As for the song’s subject content, listeners can find that it’s unlike any of McCreery’s recent offerings.
While in previous songs he has opened up about his personal life as a husband to Gabi McCreery and father to son Avery, this time, he croons about a heartache he’s going through after being ghosted by a love interest, who has seemingly moved on with someone new.
“I’ve sent a dozen texts and I ain’t heard jack / I guess she’s busy playing hard to get back,” McCreery sings in the opening lines of the song.
“Sitting here I can’t believe what I just saw / A couple shadows kissing on her bedroom wall / It’s looking like my plan didn’t work out at all / Our break turned into broke up / So now I’m finding out how heartbreak tastes / With a silver oak 1998 / Drinking cab in a solo, solo in the cab of my truck,” he sings the chorus, providing a clever hook that grabs onto people’s ears.

How Did “Cab In A Solo” Come To Be?
“Cab in a Solo” came together during a trip to McCreery’s home state of North Carolina, where the singer/songwriter co-wrote the lyrics alongside Frank Rogers and Brent Anderson. From there, the song was recorded in the studio and produced by Rogers, Derek Wells, and Aaron Eshuis.
“I brought several of my writer buddies to the mountains of North Carolina for a few days to write songs, and that’s where ‘Cab in a Solo’ was born,” McCreery recalled in a press release. “This song is pure country. I’m excited to share it with everyone.”
Before dropping “Cab in a Solo,” McCreery took to his social media pages to tease the release, first with a cryptic message that read: “It’s lookin like my plan didn’t work out at all.”
McCreery paired that note with an Instagrammed image of himself at a table with a red solo cup in hand.
“🛻🙍🏻♂️🍷,” he captioned a second sneak peek of the tune, offering fans some of the audio track to which followers compared to the sound of Josh Turner and Conway Twitty.
Follows McCreery’s Five Consecutive No. 1 Hits
“Cab in a Solo” follows McCreery’s five consecutive No. 1 hits. They include “Damn Strait” – which spent three weeks atop the Billboard Country Airplay Chart – and “You Time,” both from his 2021 Same Truck album. The three others include “Five More Minutes,” “This Is It,” and “In Between,” from his Seasons Change album.
Although McCreery has already experienced success on country radio, he says he is grateful every time he makes it back to the radio waves. Turning to Instagram, he let his fans know that the feeling of hearing his songs on the radio never “gets old.”

“Cab in a Solo” serves as the first taste of the next chapter for McCreery following the success of “It Matters to Her,” the fastest climbing single of his career.
