Morgan Wallen discussed new music and teased his next project while co-hosting Country Countdown USA with Lon Helton last week (Jun. 23).

The “Wasted On You” singer shared that he’s been writing new material and already has 12 songs finished.

“I’ve already got 12 songs finished, maybe more. I’m just trying to beat what I’ve got,” Wallen told Helton while co-hosting the show. “I’m confident in whatever I do next already. Overall I feel pretty comfortable. I don’t feel rushed. I’ve got other things, I’ve got the tour, I’ve got my son, so I’m glad that I’ve already spent some time on the next project,” he said.

In addition, Wallen revealed what it was like to work with fellow country artist Miranda Lambert on his song, “Thought You Should Know.” Wallen co-wrote the song with Lambert and songwriter Nicolle Galyon in honor of his mom, Lesli and released the track on Mother’s Day Weekend this year.

“I had a song I was working on, and I knew it was going to be for my mom. I wanted to get a female perspective,” Wallen explained. “[Miranda Lambert] helped me tremendously.  Miranda always says something cool. I’ve always been a fan of hers.  She was just what I thought she’d be, except cooler!,” he added.

Wallen had shared a clip of himself playing the song on guitar via social media in May 2021, prompting Lambert to respond, “Thanks for letting me and @nicatnitemusic write this special song with you. Sounds great.”

Wallen is currently headlining his Dangerous Tour, in support of his double album of the same name. In October, Wallen will headline his first-ever stadium at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

Nearly all of the tickets for the show sold out during the pre-sales, with Wallen selling over 37,000 tickets on the first day, and surpassing the record held by Mötley Crüe and Def Leppard.

“I grew up playing baseball… spending more nights than I can count on fields in East Tennessee, it’s a special moment to be back on the field but doing my thing with my band,” Wallen said about his first headlining stadium show, which will take place at the home of the Texas Rangers.

The Oct. 8 show will feature special guests HARDY, Mike Ryan, and Jake Worthington.

Wallen just scored his sixth No. 1 at country radio with Dangerous track “Wasted On You.”

He will return to Country Countdown USA for part two of his conversation with Helton this week.
