Thomas Rhett admitted it’s “unbelievable” that he and fellow country singer Eric Church share new music with each other before it’s released. Rhett made these comments back in May while co-hosting Country Countdown USA beside Lon Helton.

Rhett discussed his friendship with Church, who he name-checked in his hit song, “Country Again,” and told Helton more about how he and Church send songs “back and forth.”

“This is the closest me & Eric [Church] have ever been,” Rhett shared. “We’ve been sending songs back & forth. Eric will send me something unfinished at 2:00 in the morning.”

Rhett continued to say how cool it is that he’s one of the people Church chooses to share music with. “To be one of those people that he shares music with is unbelievable,” Rhett said. “It’s been a neat friendship, and [a] pinch-me moment,” he added.

And in discussing music and songwriting, Rhett told Helton about another cool moment that happened while he was writing his chart-topping song, “Slow Down Summer.”

Rhett explained that he wrote the song with Sean Douglas, whose father is actor Michael Keaton, and that the actor seemed to be “intrigued” by the songwriting process.

“I wrote [my song ‘Slow Down Summer’] with Sean Douglas, who’s the son of Michael Keaton, the actor,” Rhett shared. “We were out staying at Michael Keaton’s house in Montana. We were partly out there on a fishing trip, and if we wrote a song, great. I remember Michael kept poking his head in the writing room. I think he was intrigued in the writing process.”

Rhett said he caught a fish with the famous actor and asked him if he kept the Batman outfit from his 1989 film role in which he played the superhero.

“Oh sure!,” Rhett told Helton when asked if he spoke with the actor at all. “I caught my first rainbow trout with Michael. But I asked him if he still has the original Batman outfit, and he said yes. He said he tried to get his son to wear it for Halloween, but he refused,” he continued.

Rhett recently celebrated an important milestone when his song “Slow Down Summer” became his 19th No. 1 chart-topping hit.

Meanwhile, Church reflected on the end of his 51-date Gather Again Tour, sharing a recap video with his fans via social media.
