Thomas Rhett earned his 27th No. 1 hit with his latest chart-topping hit, “Slow Down Summer,” which currently sits in the No.1 spot on the Mediabase/Country Aircheck Singles chart.
The country superstar and father of four took to social media on Sunday evening (May 29) to share the news with fans via a video with his 2-year-old daughter, Lennon Love Akins.
“Found out that ‘Slow Down Summer’ is the #1 song in the country at radio today,” Rhett captioned the clip. “Just feeling very grateful for everyone involved in the process.”
He went on to thank everyone that had part in writing, recording and promoting the tune.
“The writers, producers, radio team, my family, country radio and most importantly, Y’ALL!! Sitting ‘in park’ in the car with Lennon and this is the first song we hear,” Rhett added. “Can’t wait to see all of you on the road this summer 🙌 Love all of y’all so much. Happy Sunday.”
In the clip, Rhett is seen sitting in a car beachside with his 2-year-old daughter on his lap listening to “Slow Down Summer” on the radio.
“Me and Lennon just went and took pictures on the beach. Listening to ‘Slow Down Summer’ on the radio, No. 1 song in the country right now,” Rhett said with a big smile on his face.
“Slow Down Summer” marks Rhett 19th career chart-topper and his 13th consecutive No. 1 hit on the Mediabase Country chart.
Co-written by Rhett alongside his dad Rhett Akins and Sean Douglas, Jesse Frasure and Ashley Gorley, “Slow Down Summer” serves as the lead single from Rhett’s latest project, Where We Started.
The track finds the hitmaker singing about a summer love that he hopes doesn’t diminish with the season.
“I wrote this song from the point of view of two people who are in love during senior year of high school,” Rhett previously explained. “I envisioned them headed off to different schools and they’re starting to understand that the moment the weather starts to change, they’ve got a 99-percent chance this relationship is not going to work. I know that myself and a lot of people have been there before, wishing the fireworks stage doesn’t have to end.”
“We recorded it and got in the studio, and it just felt like a lead single off of a record. And I know a lot of people are like, why are you puttin’ out a song called ‘Slow Down Summer’ in November? You know, the song really is a kind of a cold weather song,” Rhett continued. “It’s more talking about, like we know that the weather is getting cold or we know the leaves are changing. We know that summer is exiting and fall is coming in. And so, I think ‘Slow Down Summer’ is a really cool song, and I think a great way to lead this record off.”
Additionally, Rhett is preparing to embark on his massive headlining summer tour, dubbed the Bring The Bar To You Tour, which will feature support from Parker McCollum and Conner Smith.
The tour, which also includes a stop at CMA Fest, kicks off on June 17 in Gilford, NH and will visit over 30 cities throughout the U.S. before wrapping up on October 15 in Fairborn, Ohio.
