Megan Moroney earned her first-ever No.1 single at Country radio with her breakout smash, “Tennessee Orange.”
The song, which Moroney co-wrote with Ben Williams, David Fanning, and Paul Jenkins, claimed the top spot on the Country Aircheck/Mediabase Country Airplay chart this week.
“It’s Very Special To Me”
Produced by Kristian Bush, “Tennessee Orange” was released as Moroney’s debut single via Sony Music Nashville/Columbia Records after it gained viral success through social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
“’Tennessee Orange’ is my version of a love song. I’m a Georgia girl and I went to UGA and the song is about: I moved to Tennessee and you know that I’m willing to wear Tennessee Orange for someone and the song has really changed my life so it’s very special to me,” Moroney previously explained.
After learning that the song hit No.1, Moroney took to social media to share a throwback photo and gratitude-filled message with her followers.
“Here’s me dressed like an orange bc MY DEBUT SINGLE JUST WENT #1!!! THANK YOU COUNTRY RADIO 🧡😭🧡😭🧡,” she wrote. “This song has taken me farther than I ever could’ve imagined, God is so good 😭🧡🍊”
Brought “Tennessee Orange” To Life With A Music Video
The 2023 Music Mayhem Artist To Watch brought the song to life earlier this year with a music video that perfectly follows the song’s storyline.
Shot from the perspective of Moroney’s love interest, the video plays out through his eyes he spends time with her over breakfast, accompanies her for karaoke at Dee’s Country Cocktail Lounge, and joins her for a night on the town on Lower Broadway.
“I had so much fun making this video with Jason Lester!” Moroney said. “I think we could have taken this video in a few different directions, and I was so excited to film it from ‘his’ point of view. This song is about more than a football team and I think we captured the love story perfectly.”
An unknown love interest also meets Moroney at Elliston Place Soda Shop where they share a milkshake with two straws.
The music video earned the title of Breakthrough Female Video of the Year at the 2023 CMT Music Awards.

“Tennessee Orange” appears on Megan Moroney’s recently-released debut album, LUCKY.
The 13-track project also features “I’m Not Pretty,” “Girl In The Mirror,” “Traitor Joe,” and “Why Johnny.”
Her songs are already making a major impact on fans, including the title track, which is a highlight of Moroney’s live show.
She recently wrapped her time on Brooks & Dunn’s REBOOT 2023 Tour, and admitted she was in awe over the chance to share the stage with the iconic duo.
“Well, they’re legends, so I’ve been going and watching the show every night. I’m so excited to see it every night,” she shared with iHeartCountry. “And it’s just, these are arenas so [they’re] really big, which has been…I’m finally getting used to it. At first, it was a little intimidating, but now I’m getting more comfortable and it’s just crazy to even say that. Like, oh yeah, I’m touring with Brooks & Dunn. Like, what?”
When asked what she might take away from the duo after the tour, Moroney said she thinks their showmanship will stick with her.
“They’re just great performers. The first show that I saw him was the first night that was in Kansas City the first night of the tour. And I was like, ‘they’ve won Entertainer of the Year several times, right?’ I was like, ok, just making that clear.”
Megan Moroney will bring her live show to fans across the country later this year with the launch of her LUCKY Tour, which is already sold out ahead of its September 20 start date.
