Brett Young shared that he fangirled when meeting fellow country singer Tim McGraw for the first time, saying that McGraw is the artist who made him “fall in love with country music.”

Young recently discussed the first time he met McGraw in an interview with Audacy’s Katie Neal, saying it was a “pinch me moment.”

“I think I still have [pinch me moments] quite a bit. I hope I never stop having those,” Young said. “The big one that comes to mind takes me actually back to last time we were at C2C [festival]… I got to meet Tim McGraw, who is the one who made me fall in love with country music as a fan and then, in turn, end up wanting to write country songs,” he explained.

Young then proceeded to explain how McGraw took the time to meet him after learning Young was a fan.

“We were over there opening for him in Dublin–for him and Faith [Hill]–and he found out I was a huge fan and had somebody come grab me to come down and meet him and spent 20-30 minutes chattin’ with me and we took a picture. I was probably fangirling a little bit in that moment,” Young recalled the experience.

Young previously shared that McGraw is his dream duet partner.

In discussing his Christmas album, Brett Young & Friends Sing The Christmas Classics with Pure Country, Young shared that singing a duet with McGraw was “still outstanding.”

“I got to check a ton of boxes with this Christmas record, but there’s one still outstanding, and it’s within the genre, and it is the artist that got me into country music in the early ’90s, Tim McGraw,” Young told Pure Country. “So, if there was ever an opportunity there, I would take it in a heartbeat.”

Aside from his Christmas record, Young’s most recent album is Weekends Look A Little Different These Days, which was released in June 2021. The album features a track, “Lady,” written in honor of Young’s wife Taylor and oldest daughter Presley as well as new single, “You Didn’t.”

Young will be on tour from May 21 to Nov. 20 with stops in the U.S., Canada, and Europe.
