Megan Moroney brought her new single, “I’m Not Pretty,” to life in a just-released music video.
The just-released “I’m Not Pretty” music video features brilliantly captures the essence of the song’s narrative with Moroney taking on a dual role, embodying both the song’s main character and the envious mean girl driven by jealousy.
The music video of the year-worthy clip begins as Moroney’s alter-ego pulls up to an outdoor gathering where the antagonist becomes consumed by envy, her eyes eerily reflecting the flickering flames of a campfire. The visual narrative then back-and-forth between the two characters’ distinctly contrasting lives.
From the rosé-infused, retro glam-themed slumber party and flawlessly decorated cakes in Moroney’s world of pastel shades to the gloomy and dismal realm of her rival, “I’m Not Pretty” skillfully portrays the pointlessness of mean-girl behavior with a touch of whimsical satire.
“I’ve had a creative vision for the song since I wrote it and I am so excited that I was able to co-direct the music video,” Moroney said of the clip, which features her friends Logan Crosby, Natalie King, Alexandra Kolea and Becca Turner. “I casted my best friends in real life to be in it and thought it was really important to portray the difference in the nice girls that seem to mind their own business and the mean girls who spend all of their time tearing down others. Moral of the story – nice girls always win! I hope my fans love the video and it continues to become the empowering anthem it is.”

Moroney Co-Directed The Clip
Moroney co-directed the music video with Jeff Johnson, who is known for his work with Lainey Wilson, Carrie Underwood and Chris Young.
“Being able to work side by side with Megan and having her co-direct with me was seriously so much fun,” says “I’m Not Pretty” co-director, Jeff Johnson. “From the initial concept, to building a treatment, acting in it, performing in it, editing and sitting in on our color session, Megan was a part of this video every step of the way. She saw it through from start to finish which I really loved. We both aimed to make this video funny, clever and quirky that her fans can have fun with and laugh while watching it.”
“I’m Not Pretty” Conveys A Relatable Message
Co-written by Moroney alongside Ben Williams, Micah Carpenter, and Mackenzie Carpenter, “I’m Not Pretty” delves into a situation that many have encountered in the age of social media when an ex’s new lover accidentally interacts with a social media post from a long time ago while creeping through your profile.
Drawing from her own real-life experience, Moroney narrates the tale of when an ex-boyfriend’s new flame inadvertently liked an old photo on her feed, singing, “Did you mean to double tap / That spring break throwback from 2016 in PCB.”
“It’s a mostly true story (you can find the spring break throwback pic on my Instagram) but not meant to be taken too seriously,” Moroney previously explained of the track. “I think everyone can relate to somebody keeping tabs on them on social media. It was fun to write and it’s fun to sing and hopefully will become an anthem for the girls.”
Confidence
With confidence, Moroney uses her clever and unapologetic storytelling abilities to send a direct message to her ex’s new partner.
“Somewhere out there my ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend’s scrolling through my Instagram” she sings, painting a vivid picture of the situation before capturing the essence of the moment as she describes the girl’s actions, like “Zooming out, Zooming in overanalyzin’” and being “the queen of the mean girls’ committee.”
As the track continues, Moroney’s message becomes even more evident. She asserts her independence and resilience with lyrics such as “Give me a break, learn to sew, bake a cake” and “Take a walk and while you’re at it get lost.” Through her confident delivery and relatable narrative, Moroney’s “I’m Not Pretty” is destined to quickly become her next radio hit.
“I’m Not Pretty” hit Country radio on August 7 and made a major impact, becoming the No. 1 most-added single with 53 first-week station adds.
The anthemic tune appears on Moroney’s debut album, LUCKY.
