American Idol runner-up HunterGirl and country singer Chase Matthew covered Jason Aldean’s song “She’s Country” during a recent show.
HunterGirl posted a short clip of the performance to her Instagram, writing, “Had so much fun on the road with Chase Matthew and the band! Can’t wait to be back with them at the end of the month in GA and KY,” adding a 🤠 emoji to the caption.
In the clip HunterGirl and Matthew can be seen singing on stage as the crowd roars along in response.
“A bad mamma-jamma from down in Alabama / She’s a ragin’ Cajun, lunatic from Brunswick / Juicy Georgia peach / With a thick southern drawl, sexy swingin’ walk / Brother she’s all country, shoot / From her cowboy boots to her down home roots / She’s country,” Matthew sang in the clip, before Huntergirl chimed in to sing other portions of the song.
Fans loved the performance, with many social media users commenting that the pair’s cover was “awesome” and that they had “killed it.” A few other social media users also expressed their excitement to attend future shows featuring the pair.
HunterGirl auditioned for this past season of American Idol with a cover of country band Rascal Flatts’ song, “Riot.” She quickly impressed judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan with Bryan remarking she was his “favorite female country voice ever.” HunterGirl received the season’s new platinum ticket before making it all the way to the finale, placing second to winner Noah Thompson.
Since the conclusion of the show, HunterGirl has continued to perform, playing with Matthew as well as at this year’s Whiskey Jam, the Nashville Super Speedway, and Michigan’s Country Boots and Bands festival alongside Thompson on Aug. 12. In addition, the American Idol alum will open for Justin Moore on Oct. 7 at Crossroads Arena in Corinth, Mississippi, according to her Instagram.
Meanwhile, a fast-rising artist from Nashville, Matthew is preparing to play a massive headlining concert in his hometown in September.
“What I can tell you to expect is two badass nights, huge production, fricking crazy light show. It’s going to be like watching a movie and my town deserves that. My hometown deserves that. My city deserves that. And on a rooftop in Downtown Nashville with incredible views,” Matthew said of the headlining concert in a July conversation with Music Mayhem.
In the meantime, Matthew, who released his album Born For This earlier this year, will remain on the road, performing on his Born For This Extended Tour through October. The tour concludes on Oct. 29 in London, Ohio, according to his official website.
Chase Matthew and HunterGirl will share the stage once again on August 24 in Athens, GA at Georgia Theatre and on August 25 at Manchester Music Hall in Lexington, KY.
