Scotty McCreery takes fans on his journey to finding love and settling down in his brand-new song “Small Town Story.” The tune is the follow-up to his recent track, “Nothin’ Right.”

Written with Ashley Gorley and Zach Crowell, “Small Town Story” finds McCreery dividing up the stages of his life into heartwarming chapters, beginning with his childhood. He learns to crawl before he learns to walk. And, before you know it, he’s on his way to getting his first truck. By the time the chorus hits, McCreery is experiencing love at first sight with the person he is meant to spend the rest of his life with.

Then I saw your blue eyes / And you smile back at me / Just a matter of time / Til I was down on one knee / It was just black and white / Then it all came to light / When I met you that night / That’s when I started to write / The small town story of my life,” McCreery sings throughout the chorus of the uptempo song.

Near the end of “Small Town Story,” McCreery is looking toward the future. He asks his significant other, “Are we talking kids?” before adding, “We’re gonna have to see.”

Of course, the answer to that question is a resounding “Yes” since McCreery and his wife Gabi are expecting their first child, a baby boy due on Halloween. The happily married pair, who wed in 2018, announced their pregnancy in June during an interview with PEOPLE.

“We always knew we wanted kids, but we always knew we wanted the first few years to travel and have time on the road, to see things and experience life,” McCreery told the publication at the time. “We’ve gotten to live a lot of life and do some cool things, so seems like now’s a good time to settle down a little and expand the family.”

More recently, McCreery and Gabi, who are also parents to a sweet puppy named Moose, shared a date night. The lovebirds spent time together in North Carolina at a State Fair, ahead of their baby’s arrival. A photo posted to N.C. State Fair’s official Instagram page shows the cute couple all smiles as Gabi flaunts her noticeably popping baby bump.

“We enjoyed hosting Scotty McCreery and his wife, Gabi, at the fair yesterday! He even took the time for a few fan photos. #NCStateFair #sohappytogether Photo credit 📸 @robbie_pope_bailey,” a caption reads alongside the image.

McCreery recently wrapped a run of shows, which included stops at Gruene Hall in Texas, and House of Blues in Myrtle Beach, SC. The Season 10 American Idol winner decided to put on the brakes on his touring schedule as he prepares for fatherhood.

Next year, however, he will take the road for his Same Truck Tour, featuring King Calaway, Callista Clark, Tenille Arts, and Kameron Marlowe.

“Small Town Story” will be included in the highly anticipated upcoming deluxe edition of McCreery’s most recent 2021 Same Truck album. Same Truck: The Deluxe Album, which includes the previously-released “Nothin’ Right,” is due out on Nov. 18.
