Morgan Wallen’s Mother Lesli is speaking out a few weeks after a video of her son using a racial slur appeared online. Wallen’s mom took to her Instagram stories on Saturday (Feb. 27) to share a message with fans.
“CPAC is playing Morgan Wallen, they don’t hold to Cancel Culture. I stand with Morgan Wallen, who made a mistake and is paying dearly for it,” Wallen’s mom said. “Country Music Associations, businesses, radio stations, and agencies, stop using him as a pawn. Forgiveness and love is needed on all sides, not hate. Hate produces more hate. This isn’t solving problems. Your round table discussions are not solving problems.”
She ended her brief statement with a message of how you can help solve problems, rather than partake in cancel culture.
“Get out in neighborhoods and help your children and youth of all colors that are suffering,” Lesli said. “Educate, mentor, love. Blexitfoundation.org.” The BLEXIT Foundation that she mentioned in her statement is a movement that aims to uplift and empower minorities to realize the American Dream.
Following Wallen’s use of a racial slur, country artists spoke out, he was removed from most country radio stations, streaming playlists, deemed ineligible and to have no involvement at the upcoming ACM Awards, dropped from all CMA and CMT platforms, removed from the roster of his booking agency and even “indefinitely” suspended from his recording contract at Big Loud.
“I know my brother. He is my best friend, and I know in my heart that it did not come from a place of hate or malicious intent,” Ashlyne previously shared on Instagram. “Should he have said it? No. But should he be given the opportunity to correct his mistake and learn from it? Yes. Morgan has the biggest heart of anyone I have ever met. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you are from, he will welcome you with open arms and show you kindness. He is not the kind of person who would ever want to hurt anyone, but contrary to popular belief, he’s also human. And sometimes, human make big mistakes.”
“Our parents raised us to never judge people by the color of their skin but by their character, to give respect where respect is earned, and especially forgiveness because Lord knows we all need forgiveness in our lives as no one is perfect,” Mikaela said in a post Instagram.
