Morgan Wallen’s priorities have shifted since becoming a first-time dad to son Indigo Wilder Wallen. While the 30-year-old hitmaker is still one of the biggest artists in all genres, selling out arenas, topping the charts, and winning awards, he says his two-year-old toddler son has given him a whole perspective on life.

“I think the most important thing for me over the past couple of years, I’m a dad now,” Wallen said in a recent interview with Breakfast Television. “That’s really given me something different to live for.”

Wallen continued, “I don’t know if I’d say I was selfish, but I probably was before that. But now, things just have a whole different meaning for me. So even in the highs in the lows, I always have him. All the time, he’s there. He’s what’s important to me.”

Indigo Wilder Wallen Is Starting To Like Baseball

Aside from country music, Wallen grew up playing sports in high school, particularly baseball. Fun fact: he was even rivals with his buddy and frequent collaborator, ERNEST. Wallen attended Knoxville Gibbs High School, while ERNEST was enrolled in David Lipscomb High School in Nashville.

These days, both artists have young kids and often spend time getting their children together for play dates. When asked if he plans to pass his love of baseball to his baby boy, Wallen says he went out and purchased a kids-sized bat and ball.

“He’s starting to understand,” Wallen shared of the love of the game. “I got him a little tee and bat and ball, and trampoline with a basketball goal on it, and all that stuff. I’m definitely trying. He’s not completely interested yet, but he’s starting to show signs that he might be. I’m not going to make him love sports, but hopefully, he does.”

Indie Joined Wallen In The Studio While Recording His New Album

As for music, Indigo has already played a big role in his famous father’s latest expansive album, One Thing at a Time, which features 36 tracks that combine his love for country, rock, and hip-hop. Indigo joined Wallen in the studio as he was laying down the tracks for the album, produced by Joey Moi.

“He started coming in there and banging on guitar strings and deleting songs for Joey and stuff like that,” Wallen previously told Billboard. “But honestly, he brought a lot of joy into the room. He brought a new energy that we hadn’t had in there before.”

“Indie took over a lot when he came in here pressing buttons, and luckily he didn’t mess anything up too bad, but maybe you never know. Maybe he’ll be a producer one day. But he seemed to enjoy it quite a bit,” he added. “I know we all enjoyed having him in here. Just a fresh energy and just a good time. And I know it’s something I’ll never forget, and I don’t know if he’ll remember it or not, but I’ll be sure to show him all the videos and pictures.”

New Album, One Thing At A Time

It’s not new that family is important to Wallen. On his album, which so far boasts three No. 1 hits, including “You Proof,” “Last Night,” and “Thought You Should Know,” Wallen makes sure to include the people he loves. The latter of the three tracks, which he wrote with Miranda Lambert and Nicolle Galyon, pays a heartfelt tribute to his mother, Lesli.

Meanwhile, the album cover features him standing on the steps of his grandmother’s home. In addition, Wallen has a song on the album that features backing vocals by his sister Ashlyne. She sings harmony on a track called “Outlook,” turning the project into a family affair.

Honors His Son With New Song, “Dying Man

But as not to forget his son, who he welcomed into the world in the summer of 2022 with ex-girlfriend Katie “KT” Smith, Wallen has another tune called “Dying Man” that is dedicated to Indigo.

“That’s just a song that hints at the idea that someone or something, you know, gave you a reason to keep living,” Wallen tells ET Canada. “I mean, I was never, like, thinking I was going to die or anything, but it’s just, it’s geared towards my son. He gave me a huge reason to live and a huge reason to live in a better way.”

Morgan Wallen embarked on his massive One Night At A Time World Tour earlier this year. He was, however, sidelined for a string of shows due to health issues and a mandatory doctor-ordered vocal rest.

Additionally, he is set to return to the stage on June 22 at Wrigley Field in Chicago, IL on his One Night At A Time World Tour, which features support from ERNEST and Bailey Zimmerman on all dates and HARDY and Parker McCollum for select dates.
