Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher have been going strong for many, many years. The lovebirds, who are proud parents to two sons — 8-year-old Isaiah Michael and 4-year-old Jacob Bryan — tied the knot on July 10, 2010, after nearly two years of dating.

This summer, the happily married couple will mark their 13th wedding anniversary, which will not only be a celebration but will undoubtedly bring out some memories the pair have cherished over the years.

Where Did Carrie Underwood Meet Mike Fisher?

Carrie Underwood still remembers the first time she met Fisher, which may not have happened had it not been for her bassist Mark Childers. And she opened up about her early days of romance with the former NHL hockey player during a music session-style interview on The Howard Stern Show

Pointing to Childers, who was seated behind her, Underwood noted, “[I met Mike Fisher] through that guy right there.”

“I met him through a mutual friend of ours, and he wanted to meet Carrie backstage at the [Grand Ole] Opry,” Childers chimed in, adding that, at the time, he didn’t “Allow it. I was like, I don’t know [and] I don’t know who he is.”

Met During A Meet-And-Greet At Underwood’s Concert

But it turns out that Fisher stayed persistent and kept trying to come face-to-face with the “Pink Champagne” powerhouse. Yet, he didn’t meet her until a year later during a meet-and-greet that was arranged by Childers.

When asked if Fisher’s determination to meet Underwood in person ever made her leery due to her celebrity, the country superstar responds with, “Yes. I feel like I’ve always kind of been, I’m a skeptic anyway, and I feel like I’ve got walls up to start with. So the walls are already up, and the person has to get through those.”

“It’s not like he did nothing,” she continued, adding that Fisher is a celebrity in his own right. “He worked hard at what he did for 20 years. He was playing. I was touring. It was craziness when we were both doing what we do…. He played [hockey] for Ottawa Senators in the beginning and then the Nashville Predators. So he was blessed to be traded to Nashville out of all the places he could have been traded to. Just YouTube, Mike Fisher hockey fights, and then, you’ll see why he’s secure in his house. He was not afraid to throw down.”

Only Talked Via Phone The First Few Months Of Their Relationship

While the pair didn’t waste any time getting hitched (they wed a little over a year after meeting each other), Underwood shares that during the first few months of getting to know each other, she and Fisher only talked on the phone.

“We met in October, and then we talked on the phone for a few months before we went on our first date,” Underwood confirms. “We didn’t have a choice, but it was good. It kind of laid some foundation, and if you’re just talking on the phone, you’ve gotta — which, neither one of us are talkers. We are very comfortable with silence, and I’m comfortable in life with silence.”

“He Moved Slow”

But despite the phone conversations, the distance between them only brought out more sparks for Underwood, who says she took the first step in making the next move. The eight-time Grammy winner shares that she invited herself to a team party that Fisher was attending, adding that he “moved slow” with the first kiss.

“It was New Year’s Eve, and there was a team party, and I actually invited myself to the team party. He moved slow,” Underwood explained. “He was very slow, and I was like, ‘New Year’s is coming up. Are you doing anything?’ He’s like, ‘There’s a team party.’ I said, ‘Do you need a date?’”

Once the clock turned another year, Underwood and Fisher sealed their future with a midnight kiss, and as they say, the rest is history!
