Morgan Wallen teased that he may be launching a completely anonymous, secret side project to release songs that didn’t make the cut for his albums.

Morgan Wallen Hints At Secret Side Project

While chatting with Theo Von on his popular podcast, This Past Weekend with Theo Von, the country superstar and East Tennessee native revealed the details of what he potentially plans to do with the songs that don’t make the cut for his albums in the future.

“Some of the songs were songs that I wrote some of,” Wallen said. “So if I didn’t write ’em, then they’ll just… whatever happens to ’em, not up to me anymore. And then if I did, who knows? I might make a side project of something.”

However, he clarified that if he were to launch a side project, it wouldn’t mention his name or even include his likeness or voice. He explained that he is a big fan of certain types of music that he wouldn’t normally write or release, and this secret project would allow him to creatively explore different styles and sounds without the pressure or expectations tied to his name.

“I’ve always kind of wanted to do that anyway,” he continued. “Just kind of figure out a way to do it. It wouldn’t be my voice. I don’t know how you would do that. I’m sure there’s all kinds of ways to go about it now these days. But not be my name, not my voice, not be any kind of style of music that I normally do—just to see what happens to it.”

House Or Melodic Music

The chart-topping singer/songwriter also tossed out the idea of dabbling in house or more melodic music. “It wouldn’t even be similar to the type of music that I do. It would be nothing even close to what I’m doing now. I like house music a little bit, so I’ll listen to it working out or driving… I like melodic stuff,” he said. “I feel like a lot of that stuff doesn’t necessarily have a lot of words. So maybe what if I took a song of mine that didn’t make my album, but it’s got a story, it’s got all these things—would people like that? I don’t know.”

Morgan Wallen even went as far as to joke about possibly dropping the music under a made-up name like Dreamjacker. He also teased that he might even promote it discreetly in his Instagram stories to see where the music lands, if anywhere. “I mean, me and my buddies were talking about this topic the other day, actually. I don’t know, it might actually happen,” Wallen added.

New Album On The Way

Although Wallen teased the idea of a potential side project, it likely won’t happen anytime soon, as he’s currently focused on releasing a 37-track fourth studio album, titled I’m The Problem.

The project, which arrives on May 16 and features a 37 song track list, will include previously songs such as “Smile,” “Lies Lies Lies,” “Love Somebody,” “Just In Case” and “I’m A Little Crazy,” as well as “Superman,” a heartfelt track he wrote as a letter to his son, Indigo, and more. I’m The Problem follows his record-breaking releases, One Thing At A Time and Dangerous: The Double Album. The 31-year-old country star is also gearing up to take his new album on the road on his 20-date I’m The Problem Tour, which will feature rotating direct support from Brooks & Dunn, Miranda Lambert, Thomas Rhett and Koe Wetzel, with special guests Gavin Adcock, Corey Kent, Ella Langley and Anne Wilson on select dates. Morgan Wallen’s set list for the trek is expected to feature some of his biggest hits as well as new songs.

Wallen will kick off his I’m The Problem Tour with back-to-back shows at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, on June 20 and June 21. The chart-topping singer/songwriter will make stops at 10 stadiums (20-shows, two per city) across the U.S. and Canada, running through September 13, with the tour wrapping up in Edmonton, Alberta, at Commonwealth Stadium for two back-to-back shows.
