Morgan Wallen penned an emotional letter to his 4-year-old son, Indigo “Indie” Wilder Wallen, in the form of an unreleased new song, titled “Superman.”

Wallen Teases Song Written For His Son Indie

On Monday morning (Feb. 24), the country superstar took to social media to share a work tape of a vulnerable new song that he’s “very proud of,” created for his son.

“Been trying for a long time to write a song I loved to my son. None of them ever feel good enough because of how perfect I want something like this to be,” Wallen captioned the audio work tape. “And not saying this is perfect, but I am very proud of it. Here is a clip, It’s called ‘Superman.’”

In the vulnerable song snippet, the 31-year-old East Tennessee native reflects on his struggles with personal flaws and mistakes he’s made, acknowledging his imperfections as a father while expressing hope that his son won’t think less of him as he grows up. He admits that despite his efforts, he’s not always able to save the day, but he’ll always try his best, even though, like Superman, he’s still just a man at times.

“One day you’re gonna see my mugshot/ from a night when I got a little too drunk/ hear a song about a girl that I lost/ from the times when I just wouldn’t grow up/ and when you ain’t a kid no more/ I hope you don’t think less of me/ I try to hide my fallen short/ but you’re gonna see/ now and then that bottles my kryptonite/ brings a man of steel down to his knees / don’t always know my wrongs and rights/ sometime I’m my own worst enemy/ No, I don’t know always save the day/ but you know for you, I’ll always try/ I do the best I can/ but Superman’s still just a man sometimes/ oh sometimes,” Wallen sings in the 58-second teaser clip.

His Son, Indigo, Previously Inspired “Dying Man”

This isn’t the first time Wallen’s son inspired a song. Indie actually inspired a track on his record-breaking third album, One Thing At A Time, titled “Dying Man.” Though “Dying Man” may sound like it’s about a woman saving a man, Wallen reveals it was his son, Indigo (Indie) Wilder, born in 2020, who transformed his perspective and gave him the drive to be a better man.

“‘Dying Man’ is a song that speaks on – I wasn’t always sure, I guess none of us were, you know? Maybe I thought that I might die sooner than later and then once my son came into the world, I felt like I had a whole new reason to live and stick around,” Wallen previously told Music Mayhem. “This song is talking about a woman, but for me, it’s more to my son than it is to a woman… he was born, and he gave me something different to live for. So this song is dedicated to him.”

While Wallen has been rather quiet on the fatherhood, he previously opened up about his son, sharing that his son is his “favorite thing about life.”

“It gives me something to focus on that’s not just all about myself because for a while, I had to be super selfish,” Wallen explained of fatherhood in an interview with Billboard. “I had to mostly focus on myself or [my career] wouldn’t work.” Now that he has Indie, “it’s nice to really think about someone other than yourself and about what you’re passing down. He’s my favorite thing about life.”

New Album, I’m The Problem

“Superman” will likely appear on Morgan Wallen’s forthcoming fourth studio album, I’m The Problem. The new album will also feature the previously released tracks: “I’m The Problem,” “Smile,” “Lies Lies Lies” and “Love Somebody.” I’m The Problem follows the release of his record-breaking projects, Dangerous: The Double Album and One Thing At A Time, which ranked No. 1 and No. 6 on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums of the 21st Century, respectively.

Additionally, Morgan Wallen will celebrate the upcoming project by taking it on the road for a 20-date stadium tour, featuring rotating direct support from Brooks & Dunn, Miranda LambertThomas Rhett and Koe Wetzel, with additional support from Gavin Adcock, Corey Kent, Ella Langley and Anne Wilson on select dates. The headlining trek, aptly named the I’m The Problem Tour, will kick off in Houston, Texas with back-to-back shows at NRG Stadium on June 20 and June 21. Morgan Wallen’s headlining I’m The Problem Tour will make stops at 10 stadiums across the U.S. and Canada, running through September 13, with the tour wrapping up in Edmonton, Alberta, at Commonwealth Stadium for two back-to-back shows.

The newly-announced dates comes on the heels of One Night At A Time becoming the highest-selling country tour in history.
