Kenny Chesney revealed he’s working on a new album and that he already has “a few songs recorded” during a recent interview.
Chesney spoke with Audacy’s Katie Neal on her podcast Katie & Company for Superstar Power Hour, sharing that while he’s working on some new music, he doesn’t have a “direction” yet.
When asked about new music, Chesney responded, “I’ve started a little… I really don’t even know. I have a few songs recorded, but I don’t have a direction. I don’t have anything. I’ve been writing for it, but it’s been very sporadic,” he explained. “We’re going to slowly but surely work on new music. That’s how it always is. You never stop doing that.”
He continued, “We never stop working on [music], we never stop that process. At some point we’re going to put out another record, I don’t know what kind of record, I don’t know where it’s going to lean, I just know it’s going to be as always pieces of my life. We will… We’re just constantly working on that.”
In addition, Chesney shared if there’s ever been a song that he wished he wrote or recorded as well as if he’s ever passed on a song before.
“I think every artist has those songs, there was a couple that I don’t know that I passed on them, but they’re just songs that I heard that I wish I would’ve recorded,” Chesney said. “You know, Tracy Lawrence had a song called ‘Time Marches On,’ that is still one of my favorite songs. I love that song. I wish that I would’ve recorded that song. I wish I would’ve recorded ‘Please Remember Me’ by Tim McGraw, I wish I would’ve recorded ‘Springsteen’ by Eric Church… I don’t know there’s just lots, there are so many great songs that I hear on the radio and go ‘ah, why didn’t they send me that song?’ or ‘Why didn’t I write that song?’ you know what I mean? There’s so many, I mean, there are a lot of George Strait songs I wish I would’ve recorded, you know ‘Oceanfront Property’ or ‘The Chair,’” he added.
The last album Chesney released was Here And Now in May 2020. The new album he’s currently working on puts him on track for his 20th studio release.
Chesney kicked off his Here And Now 2022 tour on April 23 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. The tour runs through August, concluding on 8/27 at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts.
The Here And Now Tour features support from Carly Pearce, Old Dominion, and Dan + Shay.
