Kenny Chesney and Matthew McConaughey sang a duet together Thursday (Apr. 28) during the 10th annual Mack, Jack & McConaughey Charity Gala at ACL Live at the Moody Theater in Austin, Texas.

McConaughey joined Chesney onstage to sing “When The Sun Goes Down,” a song which appears on Chesney’s eighth studio album of the same name.

Chesney sported a hat, t-shirt, and flip-flops, while McConaughey wore a white suit. The pair sat side-by-side, with Chesney playing guitar. The pair, who were each holding plastic cups, even said “cheers” and drank together during the performance.

The annual charity gala is an event hosted by football coaching legend Mack Brown, Grammy-nominated recording artist Jack Ingram, and Academy Award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey. According to the foundation’s website, the two-day event launched in 2013 and has given over $20 million to charitable organizations “dedicated to children’s education, health, and wellness.” The beneficiaries of this year’s event are CureDuchenne, Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas, HeartGift, just keep livin Foundation, and The Rise School of Austin.

This year marks the 10th year of the event, also according to the foundation’s website. The event was also supported by a variety of sponsors, including Spotify, Neiman Marcus, and Nike.

This year’s event reportedly raised $8 million.

Chesney served as the headlining act for the foundation’s 2022 gala. Past years’ performances include Miranda Lambert, The Chicks, and Chris Stapleton. In addition, the event featured a fashion show, an 18-hole golf tournament complete with cocktails and refreshments, and an intimate Jack and Friends concert that included performances from Morgan Wade, Lori McKenna, Rodney Clawson, Jessi Alexander, and others.

“This is one of my favorite nights of the year because I get to be with the most talented and generous musicians I know, doing what we love: playing music for a great cause,” Ingram shared via a press release announcing the lineup of performances for this year’s event. “It’s inspiring to see friends new and old show up to create an unforgettable experience for our MJ&M audience,” he added.

Among the attendees were the three founder’s wives, Sally Brown, Amy Ingram, and Camila Alves.

Chesney is currently performing on his Here and Now tour, which concludes on August 27 in Foxboro, Massachusetts at Gillette Stadium and features support from Dan and Shay, Old Dominion, and Carly Pearce.
