Kelly Clarkson revealed that she’s written 60 songs about her divorce. Clarkson made the revelation during an interview with Brooke Reese during The Chart Show on Apple Music 1.
“I have written, like, 60 songs,” Clarkson told Reese during the interview. “It’s an insane amount of getting it out. Any time you go through something, [songwriting’s] such an awesome thing to have that as an outlet, regardless of if people hear it or not.”
Despite having written so many songs, Clarkson shared that the process behind creating her new music has been difficult.
“It’s been the hardest thing to navigate. I’ve never had this difficult of a project,” she admitted. “It’s one of those things where I’m a human and I’m going through something huge. Obviously, everybody knows, it was a big huge divorce I went through, and [it’s’] not easy with kids, so I’m just navigating what I’m comfortable with releasing.”
“Especially that makes it just a whole different dynamic. And so going through something as a person that just my outlet… Forget if I’m famous in the limelight, my outlet in general is just writing. I’ve always had a hard time communicating and literally that’s how I became a writer at the age of 10, because my mom was like, ‘You need to quit bottling it up. And then you explode. You need to communicate better.’ And so I literally started writing to help me do that. And so, I mean, I have to be completely honest, but that’s a hard thing to navigate, right? Because it’s in the public eye and there’s other people involved. And so it’s like, man, I feel like I’m the vessel for this,” she continued.
Clarkson also reassured fans that she’ll be releasing her new music at some point.
“It’s coming. I just gotta get my crap together,” she said. “I just got to figure out what I’m going to release.”
Aside from a recent covers EP inspired by her Kellyoke segment on her daytime talk show, Clarkson hasn’t released a new album since her 2017 project, Meaning Of Life.
Earlier this year, Clarkson shared with E! Red Carpet & Award Shows’ Elise Edwards that she planned on taking a break from her career this summer to spend time with her children at her Montana ranch.
