Kane Brown is getting ready to make his feature film debut, with the country star to appear in the upcoming romantic comedy, The Token Groomsman, which stars Taylor Lautner.

During a visit to The Bobby Bones Show, Brown opened up about his latest project, revealing that he hasn’t actually started filming the movie quite yet. “We haven’t even started the movie,” he said, but shared that the script is “hilarious.”

While this will be Brown’s feature film debut, he first made his acting debut in an episode of CBS’s Fire Country in 2023. Brown admitted that he has no idea when he’s going to be shooting The Token Groomsman, but when that does happen, he’ll be filming in Italy, which will mark the first time the star has ever been to the country.

According to the film’s log line, The Token Groomsman “follows the career-focused Scott (Lautner), who has hit rock bottom at work when he finds himself invited to be a groomsman at an elite, luxury, destination wedding. The only problem is he doesn’t remember who the groom is! Enticed by the rich and powerful, and hoping to make some new business connections, Scott jets off to Italy planning to blend in and quickly cash out. But when sparks unexpectedly fly with the groom’s sister Mia, Scott has to decide between ‘closing the deal’ for money, or for love.”

Kane Brown confirmed that storyline to Bobby Bones, adding a few additional details, including the fact that Lautner’s character is trying to “sell a game or something.” “He’s like a gamer, and he’s trying to sell it to this big tech company and this billionaire I think is going to be the one to help.”

The country star will appear as Scott’s best friend and “moral compass” Neil, who “proves a ride-or-die friend who may be the only sane voice in the madness of wedding season.” Brown expanded on his character, explaining, “I’m kind of that guy that just pops his head in every once in a while,” joking of Lautner, “I’m his best friend in the movie, and in real life if you didn’t know.”

Speaking to Katie Neal on Katie & Company, Brown shared that he and Lautner are actually friends and “text and talk.” Because of that friendship, Brown thinks their relationship in the film “should be just natural, and I’m really excited I get to do this with Taylor.”

The father of three added that he’s “really excited” to go to Italy to film, though he did worry about indulging in the country’s food because he’s currently on a diet. “There’s no telling when this movie’s about to really shoot, but I’m on a diet thing right now, so if it keeps going, I’m not really going to get to, I’m going to have to splurge,” he said before Neal assured him that he might actually lose weight while in Italy, no matter what he’s eating.

Director Natalie Simpkins told Deadline that Brown was cast due to his unique personality. “We knew we needed bold, lovable personalities to match the heart and humor of this story,” she said. “Kane brings something so unique. He has a rare mix of vulnerability and magnetism that’s incredibly compelling.”
