Kane Brown just released his fourth studio album, The High Road, which he says is his most personal and meaningful album yet. Produced by Dann Huff, the 18-track project arrived on January 24 via Sony Music Nashville and includes his current single “Backseat Driver” as well as the previously released tracks “I Can Feel It,” “Fiddle In The Band,” “Miles On It (featuring Marshmello),” “Body Talk (with Katelyn Brown)” and “Gorgeous.”
“This album, The High Road, is my favorite album I’ve ever made. I get to explore all sides of my story and styles of my music. Every song is important to me, and every collaboration means something personal to me. I’m so incredibly proud of this record,” Brown said of the project.
The album features six star-studded collaborations with Brad Paisley, Khalid, Jelly Roll, Marshmello and his wife Katelyn Brown. Brown enlisted Paisley on the reflective song “Things We Quit,” teamed up again with Khalid for the R&B track “Rescue,” and Jelly Roll joined the country star on the powerful song “Haunted,” which talks about their mental health struggles. Brown also collaborated with Marshmello on “Miles On It,” marking their second duet together following the success of her chart-topping hit, “One Thing Right.” He also duets with his wife, Katelyn Brown, on two songs, “Body Talk” and the emotional ballad, “Do Us Apart.”
Brown recently took some time to explain the meaning behind each of the tracks off his new album in his own words below.
Kane Brown The High Road Track-By-Track

Track 1: I Am
Written by: Kane Brown, Gabe Foust, Jaxson Free, Josh Hoge and Zach Seabaugh
“’I Am’ is a song about self-doubt and basically, ya know, everything that you doubt makes you stronger. Ya know, it just, that’s the person you are, it makes you who you are, it’s just realizing that. It’s just me saying I am, I know what I am.”
Track 2: Fiddle In The Band
Written by: Kane Brown, Gabe Foust, Jordan Walker and Russell Sutton
Brown hasn’t yet discussed his song “Fiddle In The Band” at the time of publishing.
Track 3: Backseat Driver
Written by: Kane Brown, Jacob Davis and Jordan Walker
“’Backseat Driver’ is a song that’s been going around Nashville for a while, and I’m surprised it fell into my lap. Once I heard it, I just immediately knew. I mean, it’s every Daddy-Daughter song and every Dad can relate to it, that’s a Dad and has a daughter, or, Mom and son.“
Track 4: Miles On It (feat. Marshmello)
Written by: Kane Brown, Marshmello, Connor McDonough, Jake Torrey, Nick Gale, Riley McDonough, Earwulf and CASTLE
“My song ‘Miles On It’ featuring Marshmello – the song is just fun. I haven’t been this excited to put a song out in a minute. And you know, it felt like a smash. I had to jump on it, and everybody we showed it to have said the same thing, so it’s a good summer song. So I hope y’all love it as much as me and ‘mello do.”
Track 5: Says I Can
Written by: Kane Brown, Gabe Foust, Jaxson Free and Matt Roy
“‘Says I Can,’ I wrote it for my friend that was going through a bad breakup. I just remember him, outside by his truck, his girl was inside getting his things, and he was playing a Justin Moore song it was the song ‘He Can’t Even Bait A Hook’ and it was funny just all of the stuff she was telling him that he would never be able to live without her, he would never find someone better, and he had all of these friends around him and all of these things to help him get over her.”
Track 6: 3
Written by: Kane Brown, Gabe Foust, Rivers Rutherford and Tim Nichols
“‘3’ is a song about my little boy, and about all my girls, but it’s also the number that’s been with me my whole life. It was my baseball number, and it’s just a number that I always see no matter where I go and everybody has that certain number, mine just happens to be 3.“
Track 7: Rescue (feat. Khalid)
Written by: Kane Brown, Khalid Robinson, Jaxson Free and Gabe Foust
“’Rescue’ it was the last song I wrote for the album, I turned it in two days before the album was supposed to be cut and Khalid jumped on it, it’s a vulnerable song to a girl, we’re flipping the script and if everything went down the wrong path for the guy, is there a girl that would be there to pick him up.“
Track 8: Haunted (feat. Jelly Roll)
Written by: Kane Brown, Gabe Foust and Jaxson Free
“’Haunted‘ is a song that I wrote about depression. It’s about everything that I go through, and I know a lot of people that go through as well. It’s really just a song that I wanted to put out there just to cause awareness, because if you don’t go through it then you’re not going to understand it, and I feel like this song sums it up quite a bit, and my boy Jelly Roll jumped on it just to turn it up even more.“
Track 9: Start A Fire
Written by: Kane Brown, Jaxson Free, Gave Foust and Taylor Phillips
“’Start A Fire’ is another song that’s about a break up. I felt like I needed some break-up songs on here so all my songs ain’t just about love and “Start A Fire” is just a relationship that’s going down, and instead of just going down easy, y’all wanna just go ahead and burn the whole place down. Ya know, if it’s your last thing, y’all gonna make sure the world knows it.“
Track 10: Body Talk (feat. Katelyn Brown)
Written by: Kane Brown, Kiddo A.I., Nick Long, Amanda Ibanez, Jonathan Capeci and Nicholas Sainato
“’Body Talk’ is a song, a new song with my wife, it’s completely different from “Thank God” I was just trying to show the audience a different side of her because her vocal talent is crazy, and this song is just awesome and fun.“
Track 11: Gorgeous
Written by: Blake Anthony Carter, Gabe Foust, Gregory Aldae Hein and Jaxson Free
“’Gorgeous’ is, really, a heartfelt song if you listen to it word for word. It’s telling you it’s not all about the stuff that you wear, ya know, or anything like that, it’s just about the person you are and the beauty inside you that makes you gorgeous.“
Track 12: Beside Me
Written by: Kane Brown, Alexander Izquierdo, Gabe Foust, Jaxson Free, John Byron, Ryan Vojtesak and Taylor Phillips
“’Beside Me’ sounds kinda old school to me a little bit with the way it’s sang. I love it, the play on words ya know, ‘I just need you, beside you, beside me.’”
Track 13: I Can Feel It
Written by: Kane Brown, Gabe Foust and Jaxson Free
“So this song came after we were trying to find somebody to perform with me at Stagecoach. Phil Collins was one of the people we wanted. And after we were in Canada, we wrote this song. I immediately fell in love with it, with the drum fill is so familiar to a lot of people. I’m really excited to play it live. I immediately saw the image of it after we wrote it, and I can’t wait for everybody to hear it and get to jam along to it.”
Track 14: Things We Quit (feat. Brad Paisley)
Written by: Morgan Wallen, Michael Hardy (HARDY), Brad Paisley, Jesse Frasure and Josh Osborne
“’Things We Quit’ is a song about we love the stuff that we quit. My perfect example would be my New Year’s Resolution was I have to stop Zyn, and I will say I have so far, I’m still good, but I can’t deny that I love it, so it is hard, and I’m fighting it off. I think Brad jumping on there, he killed it, I’m very grateful for Brad being on there, so thank you mister Brad Paisley.“
Track 15: Back Around
Written by: Kane Brown, Jordan Minton, Hunter Phelps and Gabe Foust
“’Back Around’ is your typical high school breakup of ‘she, he, whoever leaves you, they go onto somebody else, that person leaves them, and they try to come back to you.’ So we really jokingly, but funny, were going to keep the song going for five minutes, and we had to cut it off, but I really like that song and I remember playing it for my best friend, and he related to it right away.“
Track 16: Stay (Reimagined Sugarland Song)
Written by: Kane Brown, Gabe Foust, Jaxson Free and Jennifer Nettles
“’Stay’ is an old Sugarland song, and it was my Mom’s favorite back in the day, so I had to reimagine it and ‘Stay’ speaks for itself.“
Track 17: Do Us Apart (feat. Katelyn Brown)
Written by: Kane Brown, Jaxson Free, Gabe Foust and Taylor Phillips
“’Do Us Apart’ me and my wife wanted to write a song that was really close to Randy Travis and Carrie Underwood’s version of ‘I Told You So’ it was the closest we’ve got to it, and we’ll probably try it again down the road, but ya know it’s basically talking about wedding vows, how I’m going to love you ’til death do us part and even longer than that.“
Track 18: When You Forget
Written by: Kane Brown, Hunter Phelps, Jaxson Free, Gabe Foust and Jordan Walker
“’When You Forget’ is a song to my Papaw that just got diagnosed with Alzheimer’, and it’s just a letter that I wrote to him so when he forgets, he will remember.“
The High Road follows the release of Brown’s 2022 project, Different Man, which features the chart-topping hits “One Mississippi,” “Like I Love Country Music,” “Grand,” “Bury Me In Georgia” and “Thank God” featuring his wife, Katelyn Brown.
