Ella Langley is celebrating her first-ever solo No. 1 hit with “Weren’t For The Wind,” marking her second chart-topping hit overall, following “You Look Like You Love Me” featuring Riley Green.
The country superstar took to social media on Sunday afternoon (July 6) to commemorate the milestone achievement with two posts. “’Weren’t for the wind’ is #1 on country radio baby!!!!! So proud of this song [and] everything that it’s done and continues to do. Thank y’all for loving this song.” Langley wrote in the first post.
She concludes the post by graciously thanked her co-writers on the track, Joybeth Taylor and Johnny Clawson, and the song’s producer, Will Bundy. “Thank y’all for loving this song. Also, thank you to @joybethtaylor and @johnnyclawsonmusic for helping me write it. Thank you to my team for everything they’ve done to help get it there. Thanks to @willbundy32 for producing it. So grateful today. God is good. 🤍”
A few hours later, Ella Langley returned to social media with a heartfelt post specifically dedicated to her longtime friend and co-writer, Joybeth Taylor. The “sentimental” post featured a message for Taylor alongside a series of images from throughout their friendship.
“There’s no telling how many hours me and @joybethtaylor have put into having this moment together. Since that day on my back porch (the day we wrote our first song) we’ve dreamt about getting a #1 together,” Langley shared in the emotional post for Taylor. “Sure, there have been many days that it seemed pretty much impossible, but we always believed. Always.”
Langley continued to praise Taylor, writing, “I’ve never seen someone so dedicated to the craft of songwriting the way Joybeth is. It inspires me daily. Day in and day out, I’ve watched her work her tail off. Writing damn near 300 songs a year if not more (probably more lol). There’s no one more deserving than you, JBT. If you love my music, you also love Joybeth. I wouldn’t be the same without my sister in song and my favorite/best writing buddy. Sitting on a plane flying back to Nashville with tears rolling out of my eyes, thinking about how much we’ve talked about this moment and what it means to actually have it together. We did it JB! 😭”
Joybeth returned the love to Langley, by commenting, “I’m not crying, you’re crying…. Sharing this with you is truly the greatest…love you so much.😭😭🤍”
The track officially impacted Country radio earlier this year in January, and six months later it’s a chart-topping hit. “Weren’t For The Wind,” which also reached the Top 10 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart, appears on Ella Langley’s latest project, Still Hungover. Ella Langley wrote the song while on the Mr. Saturday Night World Tour with Jon Pardi in the fall of 2023.

“We wrote this song in the fall of 2023, I think. I was on tour with Jon Pardi, I believe. It might be 2024. But the last four years of my life, I’ve been [in] one long consecutive year,” Langley told Elaina Smith on Backstage Country. “It’s hard to recall, but I was on tour with Jon Pardi, and I brought two writers out. We flew all the way to, I think we flew to Utah or Idaho or something out there. And so, I flew Joybeth Taylor, who is famed throughout all of my music, and Johnny Clawson, who has two cuts on this record.”
She continued, “And then right as we got there, Jon Pardi ended up having to cancel the shows because he was sick. So, I was like, ‘Oh my god, we’re all the way out in Utah. What are we gonna do?’ I just got full of these riders out here, and so we just rode the bus back. This was my first tour by bus, so it was just like this little rink-y-dee. But it’s still a bus baby, and that makes a difference, and so we’re on the bus, and we’re going through Wyoming, I think. This is maybe the last song we wrote on the retreat.”
Last month, Ella Langley released her new single, “Never Met Anyone Like You” featuring HARDY, which will likely serve as the follow-up to “Weren’t For The Wind.”
Langley also recently extended the dates of her sold-out still hungover headlining tour, adding seven more to the bill, all which sold-out in minutes after on-sale. Additionally, she is on the road touring as part of Riley Green’s North American Damn Country Music Tour. Additionally, Langley also joined Morgan Wallen’s I’m The Problem Tour for 8 stadium shows, where she joins him onstage each night to fill-in for Tate McRae and perform “What I Want.”
