Luke Combs may be one of today’s most popular country artists, but he grew up listening to pop punk bands like Green Day, Blink-182, and others.
While promoting his third studio album Growin’ Up back in June, Combs spoke about his musical taste with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe.
“I listened to a lot of punk rock growing up. I did,” Combs told Lowe during the interview. “I loved Television. Dead Kennedys. NOFX. Obviously, the Green Days of the world. Blink-182 was great. Loved that. You grew up on that stuff. I’m a 1990 kid. Rancid. Yeah. Loved Rancid. The Clash. Big Clash fan as well,” he said.
In addition, Combs discussed how his success as an artist helped him pay off his parents’ house.
“They’re super proud, man, and they love to come out and go to different places they hadn’t been before and see shows and hang out. That’s a unique thing. And I remember calling my parents and being like, ‘I’m paying your house off.’ And they were like, ‘What? You can’t. No. Don’t do that.’ And I was like, ‘No. I’m doing it. That’s what I’m doing,’” Combs shared.
“So I bought myself a truck and I pay my parents’ house off first thing away. It was the first thing I did, man. I mean, had to. Had to because you realize how hard… I mean, we didn’t have a lot of money, man. We did not. My parents were really good at making it seem like we were doing fine. And we were doing fine. I had everything I needed and not a lot of what I wanted. I’ll put it that way. That was the coolest thing ever,” he added.
Besides releasing Growin’ Up, Combs also welcomed his first child, son Tex Lawrence, with his wife Nicole in June.
He is currently performing on his fall Middle of Somewhere Tour, which features support from Jordan Davis, Lainey Wilson, and Morgan Wade on select dates before wrapping up on Dec. 10 in Oklahoma City.
Additionally, Combs recently announced a massive world tour that will visit three continents and 16 countries. The trek, which will be hitting stadiums and arenas across the globe, is set to kick off on March 25 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas and wrap up in London, England at The O2 Arena on October 19.
Riley Green, Lainey Wilson, Flatland Cavalry and Brent Cobb will serve as support on the North American tour date, while special guests on the Australian and New Zealand dates include Cody Johnson and Lane Pittman.
The world tour will visit 16 stadiums across North America, including Nashville’s Nissan Stadium, Kansas City’s GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, Foxborough’s Gillette Stadium and more. Hitting three continents and 16 countries, the massive outing will also stop in Australia, New Zealand, U.K., Ireland, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland, France and Belgium.
