Country riser Corey Kent is giving fans a taste of his forthcoming third album, BLACKTOP, with the release of his newest single, “Something’s Gonna Kill Me,” available to stream now HERE.

“Something’s Gonna Kill Me”

“‘Something’s Gonna Kill Me’ is a song I wrote about taking risks,” Kent explained. “Some of my favorite things in life could kill me, but they’re also the things that make me feel most alive. I love a Sunday afternoon motorcycle ride, I love smoking a cigar on my back porch with a good friend. This song is a realization that life is short, and you gotta takes some risks to make the most of it.”

The Oklahoma-native is slated to share his forthcoming record on June 2nd via RCA Nashville/Sony Music Nashville. Produced by Jay Joyce and Chris Farren, Kent joined forces with writers including Morgan Wallen, Ryan Hurd, Kelly Archer and Lydia Vaughan to create the impressive 10-track project.

Fans can pre-order the album now HERE.

What’s The Meaning Behind BLACKTOP?

Kent took to Instagram to share the raw story behind BLACKTOP with fans, explaining how the pandemic truly impacted the artist and his career.

“When the world shut down a few years ago, and I could no longer put food on the table by playing music, I was faced with a decision, and instead of taking unemployment, I went to work for a pavement company in Dallas, TX,” wrote Kent. “Then the world started to open back up, and I was able to get back out there but through recording the first two songs on this album, I was still working at the pavement company. So ‘Blacktop’ pays tribute to the industry, the line of work, and the folks who gave me an opportunity to provide for my family, my wife and kids during the hardest time of my life.”

He continued, “I also called it ‘Blacktop’ because that feels like where we’ve spent the most time over the last two and half years. We went on a relentless stretch of pounding the pavement and playing club after club in Texas and Oklahoma, putting hundreds of miles on the van every weekend in 2021. Then when ‘Wild as Her’ started taking off, and we picked up a booking agent, we started getting further and further out of the region but with the same motto: let’s build this thing one fan, one city at a time. And 2023 isn’t any different; we’re on pace to play 95 shows this year.”
