Cody Johnson just announced that he will be releasing a double album!

During an interview with Audacy’s KMLE Country 107.9 at Country Thunder in Arizona, the country superstar broke the news that he is gearing up to release a brand-new double album, titled Leather.

“I wanna go ahead and sneak peek, I’m working on a new double album,” Johnson revealed.

Cody Johson’s New Album Will Feature 24 New Songs

He went on to share that the forthcoming project will feature two dozen tracks and that he is very proud of this next batch of songs. “This round of 24 songs I have to say is the best round of songs I have ever recorded and I feel like that’s the way it should be,” the Texas native continued. “Each album should outdo the last one.”

When asked about the overall topic of the extensive new project, he replied, “There’s some fun stuff, I think the theme of this new album is fun.”

“It doesn’t matter whether it’s a ballad or whether it’s tongue-in-cheek kinda fun. It all has to be fun, it all has to make you kind of want to move around and bob your head a little bit,” Cody Johnson added.

When will the double album be released? Johnson said “maybe by the end of the year, maybe next year.”

Leather will mark the second double album of Johnson’s career, following the release of Human: The Double Album, which arrived in October of 2021 and features the chart-topping hit “‘Til You Can’t” and his current single “Human.”

Recorded A Duet With Carrie Underwood

The news come just weeks after Cody Johnson revealed that he recently recorded a duet with Carrie Underwood.

During an interview on CMT Hot 20 Countdown, Johnson told Cody Alan that he recorded a duet with Underwood for his forthcoming new album. “I actually just recorded a duet with her yesterday for my new album coming out,” Johnson told Alan.

He then went on to praise Underwood and her team. “So, getting to know her, man she’s such a pro and everybody that she surrounds herself with are all very professional as well. And I don’t mean this to sound bad, but it’s kind of hard to compete with that,” he said.

Johnson has yet to confirm if the collaboration will appear on his just-announce double album.

Recently Shared Photos From The Recording Studio

In February of 2023, Cody Johnson shared a photo from the recording studio, teasing fans that he’s working on new music.

“COJONATION! I know y’all know what this means,” he captioned the photo, which features Johnson alongside producer Trent Willmon and audio engineer Jack Clarke.

Three New Albums

In addition, Johnson previously shared that he would be releasing three albums between 2022 and 2023.

“I just got through recording a live album, we recorded six shows and put it together,”  Johnson told The Nash News in July of 2022. Johnson has since released the aforementioned live project. Cody Johnson & The Rockin’ CJB Live arrived on December 2, 2022.

“There is nothing I enjoy more than getting to play live shows with this band,” Johnson shared in a statement. “We’ve travelled a lot of miles in the last 15 years and lived a lot of life together. This record is allowing us to deliver a live concert directly to the fans.”

“I go back next month to record a new project and as soon as that project is done, I’m going back to record another project that I’ve got lined up,” Johnson added.

Additionally, Cody Johnson is currently embarking on his headlining tour, dubbed Cody Johnson & Friends, which kicked off on January 20 in Lafayette, LA. The trek, which features support from Randy Houser, continues through August of 2023.

Later this summer, Cody Johnson will join Luke Combs on his massive 2023 World Tour for the international leg of the tour, which will visit Australia and New Zealand. That trek kicks off on August 9 in Parnell, New Zealand and wraps up on August 26 in Perth, Australia.

He is also scheduled to perform at several upcoming festivals this summer/fall, including Sistrunk Farms Auburn Rodeo, CMA Fest, Winstock Country Music Fest, Country Jam, Nebraskaland Days, Country Stampede, Country Thunder Wisconsin and more.
