Chris Stapleton gave fans a taste of his new music during a recent performance, sharing his new track “Mountains Of My Mind” at a show earlier this month.

In a fan-captured video, Stapleton performed the song solo with an acoustic guitar, prefacing the number with, “This one’s a sad one…shocker,” drawing laughs from the crowd. In classic Stapleton fashion, the song is a stirring and slightly sad affair, anchored by the country star’s undeniable voice.

“I’ve been trying all this time / Still can’t climb the mountains of my mind,” he sings.

New Album, Higher

“Mountains Of My Mind” will appear on Chris Stapleton’s upcoming album, Higher, which the singer recently shared the track list for as well as the cover art. “Mountains Of My Mind” is the fourteenth and final track on the LP, and Higher is slated for release on November 10 through Mercury Nashville.

Judging by his performance of “Mountains Of My Mind,” it’s possible that fans will get to hear a few more of the album’s songs before the full LP arrives in less than two months.

Released Project’s Lead Single “White Horse”

In July, Chris Stapleton released the project’s first single, “White Horse,” a bittersweet and emotional burner about a narrator who just can’t be what his partner needs quite yet.

Co-written with Semisonic’s Dan Wilson, “White Horse” opens with a haunting melody before kicking into a driving guitar that drops out as Stapleton begins to sing.

“If you want a cowboy on a white horse riding off into the sunset / If that’s the kinda love you wanna wait for / Hold on tight, girl, I ain’t there yet,” he declares in the chorus, his voice tracing the edge of a scream.

The song made a historic debut at country radio, achieving the biggest add day of 2023, the biggest add day of the last 12 months, the biggest add day of Stapleton’s career and the biggest add day for Mercury Records since 1997. It received 135 adds and marked Stapleton’s highest Mediabase debut with an entry at No. 31.
