Carrie Underwood may be an eight-time Grammy winner and one of the most decorated female stars in country music. But she is also human, and she’s not afraid to admit that sometimes she needs to keep her mind, body, and spirit in check as mental health can affect anyone – even her.

The country superstar recently caught up with Audacy’s I’m Listening to delve into some of the more personal topics, including the hobbies that she gets involved in when she needs to practice self-care, and find peace and balance, her go-to music when she’s feeling down, and the ways she keeps her mental health in check when it comes to dealing with internet trolls.

“When I need a mental health break, the music that I will go to would be more like praise and worship,” Underwood, a devout Christian, who in 2021 released a gospel album called My Savior, shared. “Sometimes if I just play it in my house when I’m making dinner or something or cleaning or whatever it is, positive energy just fills the house in the form of sound waves.”

“It’s really nice, and it’s uplifting, and it’s encouraging. It reminds me that I am loved and I am cherished and that I’m a daughter of the King of God,” Underwood continued. “So that is one thing that I feel is helpful.”

How Carrie Underwood Deals With Internet Trolls

Underwood, who consistently lives her life in the public eye, also said that while she enjoys sharing the milestones in her life with others and seeing what other people are doing, she doesn’t dive too deep into the social media sphere as the comments section can sometimes be unpleasant.

“I think one of the best things I could’ve ever decided to do for myself as far as social media, and how much it can weigh you down, and things like that is and I don’t read comments,” Underwood said. “I think that’s one of the best things I could’ve ever done…. Might see the top ones that are, like, from people I follow or people I know. But, after that, I don’t want any – I just, I don’t need to know. I’m doing my thing. I’m having a great time. If I posted a picture of it, it’s because I’m proud of it or liked it or I was having fun while I was doing it. I don’t necessarily need to know what everybody thinks about it.”

Speaking of social media, Underwood not only shares announcements associated with her music career. But she also posts at-home updates. The wife of former professional athlete Mike Fisher and mom to Isaiah Michael and Jacob Bryan has often revealed she has a “green thumb,” as shown in her Instagram snap below.

Gardening Is One Of Carrie Underwood’s Biggest Hobbies

“One of the biggest hobbies I have that helps me unwind is gardening. I love being outside. There are so many incredible benefits to just being outside and soaking in Vitamin D, but also getting to grow something,” Underwood shared. “It’s quiet outside. You’re very in tune with nature. You can hear the birds chirping and the wind through the breeze. You’re kind of alone with your thoughts, and I feel like there’s a lot of life lessons in gardening that you just think about as you are gardening.”

“It’s a very calming thing. And, some good physical activity, and then you get to eat – at least I do – the vegetable gardening, you get to eat what you’re growing, which is also just so good for your body, and so good for your brain, and everything in between. So it is one of my favorite things to do,” she added.

Underwood recently stepped away from the calmness, though, as she kicked off her Denim & Rhinestone’s tour on October 15. The trek is in support of Underwood’s latest album of the same name and also features Jimmie Allen as a special guest.
