Brittany Aldean opened up about being a singer, recalled auditioning for American Idol, and teased a potential duet with her husband Jason Aldean.
Brittany Aldean Auditioned For American Idol
Before Brittany Aldean met her husband, Jason Aldean, she was an aspiring singer who auditioned for American Idol. Sitting down with Lauren Alaina for Alaina’s new series LA Lately, Brittany recalled her time on the competition show, sharing that she decided to audition while she was an NBA dancer and a strike affected the league’s season in 2012.
“I didn’t have anything kind of going on at that point. I mean, obviously work, but I was like, ‘Well, shoot, I’m so used to being out on the court and stuff,’” she recalled. “And then my mom and dad were like, American Idol‘s coming to town, so why not?”
As she has “stage fright like crazy bad,” Brittany wasn’t sure, but “honestly at that point I was so used to being on the court, so I was like, well, I’ll go and try out. Same thing. I’ve been in front of people here. This is the time in my life to do it if I’m going to ever do it. And so I went and tried out and kept making it. Kept making it. And there are so many rounds before you even meet the judges.”
Talks Being Cut From American Idol
The mom of two ultimately made it to the show’s Hollywood round but was eliminated shortly after.
“All of a sudden I was like, I made it to Hollywood, and it was a thing,” she said. “And so that’s kind of how it all began, really. I always enjoyed singing, but I was never the person that was, ‘Singing is the thing forever’ when you’re young, and you’ve got your little hairbrush. More so, me and my sister would make fake Dove commercials for my parents.”

Talks Being A “Singer” And Teases Potential Duet With Jason Aldean
Alaina noted that she and Brittany talk about singing “all the time” and “interact all the time singing back and forth on the phone with one another.” She further praised Brittany’s vocal ability, calling her a “great singer.” She also asked Brittany whether she thinks she’ll ever record a song with her husband, to which Brittany replied that she “would love” to do so if the two can agree on something due to their differing musical tastes.
“We’ve talked about it, and definitely we sing together at the house and stuff sometimes, or I’ll be like, ‘Oh babe, let’s try this,’” she explained. “But our taste in music is very different. He’s just a rock country guy, and R&B is kind of my thing. We’d have to find the right song, but it’s definitely been a topic of conversation.”

Brittany And Katelyn Brown Bond Over Music
Lauren Alaina compared a potential duet between the Aldeans to Kane Brown and his wife, Katelyn Brown, who have collaborated on multiple songs together, including the chart-topping hit, “Thank God.” Katelyn was also an aspiring singer before she met Kane, which she and Brittany have bonded over through the years.
“Kate and I, we’ve been talking about that for years because we sang before we met our husbands, and then you enter this relationship with this star and then you kind of are trying to find your place in it all,” Brittany revealed. “And then you don’t ever want people to feel like you’re with this person because of singing.”
She continued, “Being with [Jason], I never wanted people to feel as though I was with him for the wrong reasons or anything. So I just kind of let my little dream dwindle in a way and kind of just lived his life. But there comes a point where it’s kind of hard to suppress.”
