Prior to meeting husband Jason Aldean, Brittany Aldean competed on Season 11 of American Idol. In a new cover story interview with Beach Happy Magazine, Brittany reflected on her time in Los Angeles, revealing that she decided to try out for the show, which aired in early 2012, on a whim after the NBA went on strike.

Fear Of Public Speaking

At the time, Brittany was dancing for the Charlotte Hornets basketball team and decided to give Idol a go despite her fear of public speaking. “I have a huge fear of public speaking,” she told the magazine. “It’s almost debilitating for me. The fact that I even did American Idol was kind of a God thing, which now makes sense because it also led me to Jason.”

During her “Road to Hollywood” backstage interview with American Idol, Brittany shared her excitement over getting to visit California.

“When I got my golden ticket, I was extremely thrilled, but I still feel like I’m in a dream and I just can’t believe it,” she said. “I can’t even fathom that I’m going to Hollywood. I’ve never been to California, so that’s great.”

In another YouTube video regarding her time on the show, Brittany praised her Charlotte Bobcats teammates and coaches’ support.

“The girls on the dance team have been super supportive. Not only the girls, but the staff also. And my coach, she’s amazing,” she said. “We’re all on this path together. It’s not just me because we are all in this limelight at this moment. It is ultimately based around the Bobcats dance team and not only me.”

While on American Idol, Brittany didn’t make it in Hollywood, receiving “yes” votes from judges Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson but a “no” from Jennifer Lopez, who noted after Brittany left the audition, “I actually thought she had a pretty voice, it just wasn’t strong enough. I mean, she’s not going to survive for a week.”

Despite her rejection in the final round of Hollywood auditions, Brittany’s audition was included in an early episode of the show and someone she met on the series encouraged her to move to Los Angeles to pursue singing.

“I was always the one who wanted to go on any journey that came my way,” she told Beach Happy.

While nothing came of her musical aspirations, Brittany shared that she was in Los Angeles and Las Vegas for around two years before relocating to Nashville. Brittany and Jason were photographed kissing in September 2012 while Jason was still married to now ex-wife Jessica Ussery. Jason divorced Ussery, and he and Brittany married in 2015.

Would Jason Aldean And Brittany Aldean Ever Duet?

Though she now focuses on supporting her husband’s music career, Brittany is open to possibly recording a duet with Jason, something the “My Kinda Party” singer echoed during a 2022 interview with Audacy’s TC and Dina B for Stars and Strings.

“Brit’s a great singer,” Jason said at the time. “It’s one of those things where, to me, it all comes down to the song. If you find the right song, I think that’s really the key. It’s definitely something I’m not opposed to at all if the right thing came along and made sense.”

The Georgia native added that he would fully support his wife should she choose to ever record a song in the studio. “I don’t think she’s ever done that before, that would be cool,” he said. “She’d be a little reluctant until she got in there. I think she’d be great.”
