Gabby Barrett made one young fan’s dream come true during a concert in Valparaiso, Indiana last week when she spotted 12-year-old Ashlyn Termini in the crowd with a homemade sign.
“Can I sing ‘Pick Me Up’ with you?” Termini had written. Barrett was performing a sold-out concert as part of the Hometown Jams event on August 4 at Central Park Plaza, home to the Northwest Health Amphitheater in Valparaiso, when she saw Ashlyn Termini and asked the 12-year-old to join her on stage for an impromptu duet.
“”I see all the great signs tonight, this one in particular caught my eye, it says ‘can I sing Pick Me Up with you…’ This is so funny because we’ve never had anybody sing this song with us,” Barrett said in a video shared to Facebook and other social media platforms by Ashlyn’s mom, Krystal Termini. “Y’all are already gonna be a fun show tonight, I can tell.”

When Ashlyn made her way to the stage, Barrett invited the tween to the center with her, kicking off the song herself before offering the microphone to Ashlyn. The two sang together for the song’s first chorus, Barrett giving Ashley a hug as the crowd cheered.
The two traded off lines as the song continued, sharing a big hug as the track ended. Before she left the stage, Barrett handed Ashlyn her tambourine, which she signed.
“Amazing! Oh, I loved it,” Barrett said as Ashlyn exited the stage.
Ashlyn Is An Aspiring Country Singer
Krystal told Music Mayhem that her daughter is an aspiring country singer who “loves country music.”
“On Friday nights we go to a local pizza place, Verona Pizza, where she sings karaoke of her favorite female country artists,” she shared. “Gabby Barrett is at the top of her list as well as Lainey Wilson. When I told her that I purchased Gabby Barrett tickets she was very excited, and I suggested she make a sign asking if she could sing with Gabby.”
“The experience was amazing!” Ashlyn said. “I have never sang in front of that many people. This was a once in a lifetime chance. My dream came true.”
Ashlyn and her family are planning to visit Nashville for the first time next summer.
“Pick Me Up” Is A Tune From Barrett’s Album, Goldmine
“Pick Me Up” was Barrett’s final single from her debut album, Goldmine, appearing on the deluxe version of the project and going to the Top 10 at country radio, later receiving a Platinum certification from the RIAA.
“I wrote ‘Pick Me Up’ with Ross [Copperman] and Jon [Nite],” Barrett previously said in a statement. “I didn’t really have a song in my repertoire that was laid-back-country – a riding down the backroads while listening to George Strait-type of song [and] I had to pay homage to George Strait because I feel like I’m being adopted into the Texas family with my husband being from Texas.”
“Glory Days”
The American Idol alum’s current single is her latest release, “Glory Days,” which gives fans the first taste of her sophomore project.
Written by Barrett with Seth Mosley, Emily Weisband and James McNair, Barrett previously told Billboard that the song “reminded me of kind of old-school Keith Urban — like ‘Somebody Like You’ or just kind of in that era. It just felt fun and it felt open, and I wanted something that was more upbeat.”
The mom of two noted that compared to her previous singles (“Pick Me Up,” “I Hope,” “The Good Ones” and “Footprints on the Moon”), she wanted her newest effort to have a different feel.
“I did not want to come out with another mid-tempo or ballad,” she said. “It’s summer, so I really was eager to release something that was uptempo and fun and make people smile.”
The Song Will Appear On Her Forthcoming New Album
“Glory Days” is the first track from Gabby Barrett’s forthcoming, yet-to-be announced sophomore album, which she is co-producing alongside Ross Copperman.
While Barrett has yet to announce a release date for the project, she did reveal that it is “almost finished” and that it is expected to debut later this year in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
“Hopefully, like, early fall is the goal,” Barrett told the outlet.
New Album Will Be More Mature
Barrett also told ET that her new album will include more mature lyrics that she truly connects with.
“I’m way more intentionally connected to these songs than my first album, I would say. Every song moves me in a certain way, and it’s just me grown up. The past years that I’ve lived, I’ve lived a lot of years in a short amount of time. It’s grown up, it’s fresh, and I’m hoping people really can resonate with it.”
The Pennsylvania native’s forthcoming album will follow her record-breaking debut album, Goldmine, that spawned chart-topping hits such as “The Good Ones” and her debut single “I Hope.”
Additionally, Gabby Barrett released a deluxe edition of Goldmine, which featured four new songs, including “Pick Me Up,” “Never Get It Back,” “The Good Ones (Wedding Version),” and a cover of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You” in addition to the 13 original tracks.
