Kelly Clarkson recently surprised a super fan during her appearance on the TODAY Show.

Clarkson surprised a fan named Jade with the help of Hoda Kotb, Carson Daly, and other members of The TODAY Show during an August appearance on the program.

Jade thought she would be getting to sing a virtual duet with Clarkson as part of Clarkson’s Kellyoke Search, but then Clarkson appeared on the outside plaza to Jade’s excitement.

Jade, who is a junior at NYU and an aspiring performer and music educator, began to sing a few bars of Clarkson’s hit song, “Since U Been Gone” before Clarkson crashed her performance.

As soon as she saw Clarkson, Jade stopped singing and the pair shared a hug before Clarkson remarked, “I am totally stealing that [vocal] run. That was so good.”

“Can you [sing] a little bit together?” Kotb asked Jade, who turned to Clarkson and said, “I mean if you don’t mind.”

The pair then blended their voices on the song’s chorus. “You are amazing,” Kotb told Jade after the pair had finished.

“Jade, if things don’t work out on the [Kellyoke Search] bus, then we gotta get you in front of those four big red chairs [on The Voice],” Daly added.

Clarkson’s appearance on The TODAY Show marked her first time there in three years.

Besides surprising super fan, Jade, Clarkson shared more information about her decision to take the summer off and spend extra time with her kids. Clarkson told Kotb and Daly that they vacationed in Montana and that the family getaway was the first time she’d taken a break from work since she was 16 years old.

Kotb and Daly also praised Clarkson on the success of her daytime talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show.

“I genuinely like interviewing people and talking to people,” Clarkson said.

In addition, Clarkson discussed her Kellyoke Search bus venture. Clarkson said the idea came about because of her popular Kellyoke segment on her talk show. The objective of the touring bus is to find a singer in every city and then declare a winner. The winner in each city will then be invited to perform with Clarkson on her talk show.

Prior to taking her summer break, Clarkson revealed she was working on new music detailing the last two years of her life, but it’s not ready to be released yet.
