Kelly Clarkson is “taking a break” from her career this summer to spend time with her kids at her Montana ranch, she revealed during a recent interview.
Clarkson shared her plans for her summer break with E! Red Carpet & Award Shows‘ Elise Edwards on May 26.
“You are so busy. We were talking about how it’s the end of school. Are you taking some time off and doing something for yourself this summer?” Edwards asked Clarkson.
“Girl, for the first time since I was 16 years old, I am taking my summer off,” Clarkson said. “And, it’s one of those things, I was like, I feel bad ’cause things come up, but, at some point, you know you just gotta be able to like set the dates and say, ‘nothing will interfere with this time.’ ‘Cause it’s precious, and especially for a single working mom, like it’s exhausting, you go to work and you come home, and you’re constantly on, like doing something, and it’s nice, you know, I’m just gonna have time with my kids out on my ranch in Montana and we’re just gonna be doing nothing,” she explained.
Clarkson went on to say that her kids also have “crazy schedules,” and though taking a break will be weird, she’s “not doing anything” over the summer.
Clarkson also said that she’ll have to take it if people think she’s “rude” for not continuing to work over the summer and declining other plans, sharing that her break’s “gotta happen.”
In addition to mentioning her break, Clarkson also revealed whether or not fans can expect new music from her soon.
Clarkson shared she does have a new project that will be coming out but hasn’t been announced yet. She’s planning to play a few songs from the yet-unannounced project at an upcoming concert in Galveston, Texas with Norwegian Cruise Line as part of their annual recognition program which will honor 100 teachers on Oct. 27.
Though Clarkson declined to go into further detail about the project, she did say it’s not her new album.
“It’s not the new album everyone’s wanting, like, yet, because I honestly, am not ready,” she said, adding that her new record, which details the last two years of her life, has really “changed” and “morphed.”
Aside from music, Clarkson hosts her daytime talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show and also recently co-hosted American Song Contest alongside Snoop Dogg.
Clarkson also served as a coach on NBC’s popular singing competition, The Voice, but recently left the show to be able to spend more time with her kids.
Outside of her professional ventures, Clarkson is mom to River Rose and Remington Alexander, the two children she shares with ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock.
