Warren Zeiders is gearing up to drop his upcoming debut album, Pretty Little Poison. The 24-year-old country artist has already given fans a taste of the project with releases, “Tell Me Like It Is,” “Painkiller,” and his Pretty Little Poison sampler, which features four tracks — “Inside Your Head,” “West Texas Weather,” “Coming Down High,” and the title track.
“Inside Your Head”
“Inside Your Head” marks Zeiders’s first outside cut. The song was co-written by eight-time Grammy winner and country music powerhouse Chris Stapleton. Zeiders opened up his reason to cut the tune, which includes a writing credit by songwriter Lee Miller.
“Honestly, shoutout to Chris Stapleton. He wrote ‘Inside Your Head,’ the first outside song I ever cut, and in honor of Chris and playing a lot of shows he’s gonna be at this summer, I decided to put it out,” Zeiders said during an interview with Celeb Secrets. “I don’t mind taking from outside, but it was honestly the first song that for me, and what I want to say and what I want to do, that stood out to me.”
Sharing why he released some of the tracks ahead of his debut project, Zeiders said, “I think that it was, in my eyes, the best way to start showing people what’s to come and, you know, to tease ’em a little bit, but it’s been really cool to see the reactions to all the new music.”
Zeiders Co-Wrote All 14 Tracks On The Project
Other than Stapleton’s co-penned track, Zeiders wrote all of the other 13 songs on his forthcoming debut. But he didn’t go at it alone and shared that he prefers to co-write with other people.
“[My] favorite thing to do, honestly, is co-writing. I think that it’s finding my niche, finding my group of people who bring out the best in me and understand me and what I want to say and what I want to do,” he said. “I think that’s the best thing about what this whole process is. It’s finding people who understand you and want to help you bring your vision to life. Whether it’s your idea or whether it’s theirs, if it fits you, that’s all that matters.”
Pretty Little Poison finds Zeiders collaborating with a slew of songwriters, some of which include Eric Paslay, Randy Montana, Ryan Beaver, Miller, Benjy Davis, Austin Taylor Smith, and Jarred Keim. Bart Butler and Ryan Gore co-produced four tracks while Ross Copperman produced ten songs.
“I’m Paying Tribute To That Classic Country Sound”
Additionally, the album features a multitude of genre influences. While Zeiders has gotten used to performing for large crowds with his guitar in hand, the project will showcase what fans haven’t heard with a full-arrangement and various instruments.
“A lot of this album is about a girl, and a lot of it is about me,” the former athlete shared of the project in a press release. “I’m paying tribute to that classic country sound, but I’m keeping things modern, too. At the end of the day, I’m just putting my heart on my sleeve and putting myself onstage.”
Fans who are waiting patiently for Zeiders’ full-length album can continue to enjoy his current single, “Pretty Little Poison,” which, to date, has racked up 47 million streams and became the most-added track on country radio in its debut week earlier this month. Zeiders co-wrote the track, which serves as the album’s lead-off single, with Jarred Keim and Ryan Beaver.
In a press release, Zeiders noted, “This is my favorite song that I’ve ever written. Like a moth to a flame, this song is about being led into temptation between love and toxicity. Choosing something or someone that we ultimately know will hurt us in the end.”
Additionally, Warren Zeiders is currently on the road as part of his Pretty Little Poison Tour, which runs through Nov. 11. His 14-track Pretty Little Poison album arrives on Aug. 18 via Warner Records.
