The Cyrus family is full of musicians, each of whom have carved out their own lane in the industry. For Trace Cyrus, that’s been with his pop-punk band Metro Station and through his own solo career, though he recently opened up about how he feels his “famous family” impacted his success in a Q&A on Instagram.

Reflects On Finding His Own Success Beyond Shadows Of “Famous Family”

“I love my family so much, but I think I’d be much more successful if I wasn’t part of a famous family,” Cyrus wrote on his Instagram Story. “People immediately want to judge me and discredit all my hard work because of who I’m related to. But that’s so far from the truth.”

He added that Metro Station “got a record deal without anyone from my label even knowing who I was related to ’til after they signed me.”

The 33-year-old also pointed out that he avoided using his full name on purpose at the beginning of his career. “I never put my last name online anywhere for the first years of my career until people started finding out,” he told fans.

Metro Station Success

Cyrus started Metro Station in 2006 with Mason Musso and the band signed to Columbia Records, releasing their self-titled debut album in 2007. The project contained their hit song “Shake It,” which has been certified 2X Platinum.

Cyrus left the band in early 2010, forming the pop band Ashland HIGH before returning to Metro Station in 2014. The band released their second album, Savior, in 2015 and went on their Savior Tour to promote the project.

In 2017, Cyrus began releasing solo music and shared his first EP, Killing the Pain, in 2021.

To Keep Relationships Private Moving Forward

During his Q&A, Cyrus also responded to one fan’s question about his relationship status, sharing that after experiencing public interest in his prior dating life, including a seven-year relationship with Brenda Song, he’ll be keeping things private from now on.

“After having such public relationships in the past, I’ve decided any of my current or future relationships will be much more private,” he wrote. “So even if I did have a girlfriend I wouldn’t tell you guys. Sorry.”

Recently Walked His Mother Tish Cyrus Down The Aisle At Her Wedding

Several members of the Cyrus family recently gathered to celebrate Cyrus matriarch Tish Cyrus’ wedding to Dominic Purcell on August 19, which featured Trace and his sisters Miley Cyrus and Brandi Cyrus as members of the wedding party.

Trace opened up about his mom’s special day on Instagram, sharing a photo of himself with his mom and sisters and writing that he feels “extremely blessed to be part of such an amazing family.”

“Congrats to my mom on a beautiful wedding,” Trace continued. “Life is unpredictable & always full of changes. I think the most important thing to do is cherish the past, look forward to the future, & always be happy in the present moment because that’s really all we have. Yesterday is gone & tomorrow is never promised. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen my mom so happy & that makes me genuinely happy. I love you @tishcyrus.”

Tish and Purcell married at Miley’s Malibu, California home and Miley walked her mom down the aisle. The couple first connected over social media after Tish “slid into Dom’s DMs” and became engaged over Thanksgiving last year.

“It was like I was in a fairytale,” Tish told Vogue UK of her wedding day. “The most romantic fairytale you could ever imagine.”
