Toby Keith is gearing up to release a brand-new single to Country radio later this month!

The country superstar’s song “Oklahoma Breakdown” will impact the country music airwaves on September 26th, according to Country radio insider Chris Owen on Twitter.

On National Radio Day in August, the GRAMMY-nominated country hitmaker teased the arrival of his song, saying “Get Ready To Start Hearing #OklahomaBreakdown on the radio real soon…”

Solely penned and first recorded by well-known Oklahoma artist Michael Hosty, “Oklahoma Breakdown” appears on Keith’s 19th studio album, Peso In My Pocket, which arrived on October 15, 2021.

“Mike was playing somewhere and I saw him do it, so it reminded me,” Keith explained of the tune. “The song has some miles on it, so I called him and asked if he wanted to play on it if I cut it. I figured everyone in that part of the world would get a kick out of him being on the record. So that’s him on rhythm and that slide solo.”

“Tell me that you love me if it’s true / I don’t want no one girl if I can’t have you / This Oklahoma Breakdown sure do got you crying / Let me tell you that I love you one more time,” Keith sings on the chorus of the song that tribute’s his hometown.

Co-produced by Kenny Greenberg and Keith, Peso In My Pocket features 10-songs, 4 of which are penned solely by Keith. The project includes a tribute to the late John Prine, where Keith shared his rendition of the Prine-John Mellencamp co-write “Take A Look At My Heart,” as well as a duet with Keb Mo covering Mo’s “Old Me Better.”

Notable songwriting credits include The Warren Brothers, Ryan Hurd, Maren Morris, Jesse Jo Dillon, Brett Tyler, and Sammy Hagar.

Peso In My Pocket marks Keith’s first new album since the release of 2015’s 35 MPH Town

The news comes just months after Keith revealed he was diagnosed with stomach cancer.

“Last fall I was diagnosed with stomach cancer. I’ve spent the last 6 months receiving chemo, radiation and surgery. So far, so good. I need time to breathe, recover and relax,” the country hitmaker wrote on social media on June 12, revealing his diagnosis with fans.

Keith is currently “spending this time” with his family, and it remains unclear as to when Keith will return to the stage, however he promised fans that he will see them “sooner than later [and he] I can’t wait.”

Following Keith’s diagnosis, fans and fellow country stars took to social media to send the hitmaker well-wishes and Keith later graciously thanked them for their support.

As a result of his cancer diagnosis, Toby Keith was also forced to cancel all of his upcoming tour dates.
