Shania Twain said she was “blown away” by fellow country singer Kelsea Ballerini wearing her 1999 GRAMMYs dress to last week’s ACM Honors event. Twain spoke with ET Online’s Cassie DiLaura at the event.
“I am so blown away,” Twain reacted to Ballerini wearing her gown. “She looks stunning. She looks like an absolute angel. It’s very flattering to see her in the dress, and that she even wanted to wear it. I said, ‘I hope it’s not too dusty after being in the [GRAMMY Museum].’”
“It was an incredible night for me at the GRAMMYs. That dress represented that experience, so I’m just happy to see it alive again,” the “Any Man Of Mine” singer added.
“Now it has a new life, and it has new memories, and it’s really great to be able to share that with other people, with another woman. Obviously, it’s a huge compliment to be admired enough that someone would want to step into my dress.”
Twain won Best Female Country Vocal Performance and Best Country Song for her track, “You’re Still the One” the year she wore the dress to the Grammy’s, according to ET Online.
Ballerini posted a video on her TikTok account sharing that she would be honoring Twain at this year’s ACM Honors. In the video, Ballerini and her team unbox the dress and she tries it on ahead of the big event. Ballerini described the opportunity as a “fairytale moment.” “I adore you,” she said, tagging Twain in the video’s caption and adding 🙏 and 🤍 emojis.
@kelseaballerini fairytale moment. @shaniatwain i adore you. 🙏🤍
In addition, Ballerini shared a short clip of her and Twain featuring Twain’s song, “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!” Ballerini performed the song as her tribute to Twain at the event, where Twain received the ACM Poet’s Award.
“If your hero is Shania Twain, meet your hero. You may become friends and she may even let you wear THE dress,” Ballerini said of the experience on Instagram.
The long-sleeved white dress was designed by Marc Bouwer. Ballerini received permission from Twain to wear the dress, which had been on display at the Grammy Museum’s Power of Women In Country exhibit.
