“Let Your Boys Be Country”
Jason Aldean’s son Memphis and daughter Navy appear in the music video for his latest single, “Let Your Boys Be Country.”
“For me, I feel like it was a fitting song right now,” he recently told Taste of Country. “I got a [6-year-old] little boy who’s growing up in a crazy world right now. It’s like, ‘Man, just let ’em be kids. Let them be little [and] Let them go play and do all the things they’re supposed to do and figure things out for themselves.’”
Co-written by Jaron Boyer, Allison Veltz Cruz, and Micah Wilshire, “Let Your Boys Be Country” finds Aldean urging mothers to allow their sons to proudly embrace the country lifestyle, should they choose to do so. “Let ’em ride ’round in trucks, making backroad noise/ Let ’em hang out on Friday, getting wild with the boys/ Let ’em go to the woods in the cold painted up camo green/ Yeah, let ’em chase, lеt ’em fall for a small-town girl/ Let evеrything inside these county lines be his whole world/ You want him to grow up to be someone he’s damn proud to be/ Mommas, let your boys be country,” Aldean sings on the tune’s chorus.
Recorded The Song With His Son In Mind
While the ACM Artist of the Decade didn’t have a hand in penning the track, he cut the song with his own son in mind.
“Little boys grow up to be men that are supposed to get married and take care of their family and be providers,” Aldean later explained to Taste of Country Nights‘ host Evan Paul. “As parents, you gotta raise ’em to be that. To me, it was a song that hit home when it comes to thinking about him being little and what’s in store for him later.”
New Album, Highway Desperado
“Let Your Boys Be Country” appears on Jason Aldean’s 11th studio album, Highway Desperado. Produced Michel Knox, the project, released on November 3 via BBR Music Group, features 14 tracks, including his first-ever Billboard Hot 100 No. 1, “Try That In A Small Town.”
Jason Aldean shared the inspiration for the album’s title came from his latest sold-out headlining arena tour, as well as his early days as an artist. “I think when I look back on it, I built my career early on my live show, and have been on the road touring since I was 18 years old. For us, touring is our favorite part. Getting on the bus and going town to town and playing our shows and doing our thing and seeing the fans… the title for the tour and album was really inspired from that,” Aldean previously detailed of the album title.
Highway Desperado follows his double album, MACON, GEORGIA, a project that spawned several chart-topping hits for Aldean such as “If I Didn’t Love You (feat. Carrie Underwood)” and more.
