American Idol alum Scotty McCreery said he and his wife Gabi McCreery are “super excited” to welcome their first child later this year.
McCreery shared more information about Gabi’s pregnancy on a recent episode (Jun. 24) of The Music Universe podcast with Buddy Iahn.
“It’s been exciting times in the McCreery household,” the “Damn Strait” singer told Iahn of his wife’s pregnancy. “We’re glad the cat’s finally out of the bag. We’re super excited… Very exciting. It’s been tough to keep it a secret for a while. Now we don’t have to hide anything, and we can share it with everybody,” he said.
McCreery revealed that he and Gabi kept her pregnancy a secret for as long as they could before making a more public announcement.
“For us, it was one of those things where we just kind of treasured that initial time with just ourselves and just family and friends knowing, and not being too public,” McCreery explained. “But after a while, with this kind of thing, you can’t really keep the secret too much longer. She’s doing great. She’s starting to show,” he added.
When asked if he and Gabi had a name picked out for their child, a son, the country singer said they didn’t yet and admitted he initially thought they were having a girl.
“[We don’t have] a name yet,” McCreery said during his conversation with Iahn. “We were expecting, at least I was — I think Gabi might have thought it was a boy — but I was thinking it would be a girl, and we had a really cute girl name picked out. But we do not have a boy name yet, so we have to get on it.”
McCreery also said that he’s trying to “make life easier” for Gabi as much as he can during her pregnancy and that he’s “excited” to watch their son grow up.
“I’m excited, it’s going to be a totally different thing for us, uncharted waters, but I can’t wait for the challenge. I can’t wait to see little man grow up, and be there for him and learn and obviously life’s going to change a lot, but change in the best way,” McCreery added.
“She’s the one doing all the work,” McCreery shared.“I’m doing good. I’m just trying to do the best I can to make life easier on her, help out where I can. I think that’s my role for the next few months. I’m excited. It’s going to be a totally different thing for us, uncharted waters, but I can’t wait for the challenge. I can’t wait to see the little man grow up and be there for him and learn. I know life is going to change a lot, but change in the best way,” he continued.
McCreery and his wife announced that they were expecting their first child, due in November, last week.
“I was the only boy on both sides of my family, the last McCreery boy out there,” McCreery told PEOPLE when he and Gabi announced her pregnancy. “Gabi’s from two sisters in her family, so I just figured it would be a girl. But we got a surprise of a boy.”
“I grew up playing sports, so getting to introduce him to baseball, which was my first love right there with music, and golf are just little things that [will be great],” the country singer said.
Following he and Gabi’s exciting announcement, McCreery shared a photo of a Patriots’ jersey for Baby Boy McCreery that the team had sent him. “Baby’s first jersey!!!,” McCreery wrote via his Instagram Story on Monday evening (June 27).
“Thanks @Patriots!,” he added, tagging Gabi and Gillette Stadium’s Social Media Manager/Event Coordinator, Kassie Epstein.
Baby McCreery will join Scotty and Gabi’s fur baby Moose.
