American Idol winner Noah Thompson and runner-up HunterGirl had plenty of time to get to know each other during their time on the show. They recently shared that they are so close, they consider each other to be their “best friends.”

“Me and Hunter got extremely close towards the end, probably from top 10 on,” Noah shared during an interview with Hollywood Life. “We had our trailers side by side and everything. We kind of talked each other through each day. We were just there for one another.”

The two artists have found that it’s helpful to have someone by their side who knows exactly what they’re dealing with – including all the good and the bad that has come from their rapid success.

He added, “Me and Hunter are best friends — we’ve been best friends ever since then and we’ll always be there for each other. You kind of need that in doing this. We’re just there for each other like that.”

They have shared the stage before and even spent some time in the studio together, but have yet to record an official duet together. In a previous interview with Hollywood Life, HunterGirl teased that a duet with Thompson is possible for the future.

“Hopefully. I hope there is a duet that comes out in the future,” HunterGirl shared. ”He’s one of my best friends, so it would be really cool to see someone come together between the two of us. Stay tuned.”

Thompson has stated that he’s also on board for the idea. “I’m hoping we do get to do something in the future for sure,” he teased in an interview with Music Mayhem.

Towards the end of the competition, several contestants released their own music including Thompson. He recorded his catchy debut single, “One Day Tonight,” which HunterGirl sang background vocals on.

“Hunter and I, we get along so good. We’re almost like brother and sister. I love Hunter to death. So having her do that with me was really cool. We were kind of in it together and that’s what was so cool for me,” Thompson told Music Mayhem.

At this year’s CMA Fest that took place in June, the Idol alums on the rise had a busy week as they made several stops around music city performing in iconic venues like the Bluebird Café and on stage with fellow young country artists such as Jimmie Allen, Laci Kaye Booth and Chayce Beckman. This was just a taste of what’s to come for them.

On July 29, Thompson dropped a countrified version of Rihanna’s 2012 hit, “Stay.” He received glowing reviews from fans and fellow Idol contestants such as Leah Marlene and Fritz Hager.

One user wrote, “This song is gonna be a No. 1!!”

HunterGirl also shared on social media that she is keeping busy with writing new music while she’s back in Nashville and fans can only hope that the duet with Thompson is in the works too. This Friday, August 5, she will take the stage with Chase Matthew and Frank Ray in Fayette, AR followed by a performance in Michigan on August 12 with Noah Thompson.
