Morgan Wallen introduced fans to his new German Shepherd puppy in May 2020. Since then, he has shared the inspiration behind the dog’s name and a few other things about the adorable pup.
Wallen decided to get a dog during his time off the road due to the global health crisis currently forcing the touring music industry to pretty much come to a halt.
“Since i’m not going to be playing shows for a little while, I decided I’m going to get a dog,” Wallen shared. “so I did.”
The country superstar’s puppy is just over a year old now, however when he adopted him he was just 5 months old. The German Shepherd puppy was named Boots by the “More Than My Hometown” singer. Wallen explained that the dog’s name was inspired by his late great grandmother “Mamaw,” who he called Boots.
“My Mamaw, Boots, was one of my favorite people and she passed away this past year [2020],” Wallen explained during an Instagram Live. “So I decided to name her after her, so her name is Boots.”
The singer previously told Country Countdown USA‘s Lon Helton, that his great-grandmother, Boots, “lived a great life” and “was a very special lady.” Continuing to explain that his Mamaw helped raise him and his sisters, so there was no better reason to name his dog after her as it just made “perfect sense” to Wallen.
He told WYRK that he also felt it was “appropriate for me to carry her name on with my dog” as she was one of his “favorite ladies ever,” actually one of his “favorite people ever.”
