Morgan Wallen gave the debut live performance of his fan-favorite song “7 Summers” on Thursday (Sept. 10) during Tito’s Handmade Vodka Presents: Made To Order YouTube livestream. Wallen performed the popular track pond side in the rain.

“This is a song that I originally didn’t even know if I was gonna record or not, I just had the demo and when quarantine and everything happen, Jake Owen nominated me to do a demo challenge on Instagram and I shared this song and it ended up going viral I guess and we decided to put it out and it’s made a big impact on my career already,” Wallen explained. “It’s blown my mind to be honest, appreciate you guys and this is one of our first times playing it live together.”

The song brings a smooth, beachy-vibe that just makes you want to sway along with a cold “coke and southern comfort.” “7 Summers” allows Wallen’s signature vocals to be put on full display throughout the song especially noted during the second chorus’ ab libs. The song finds Wallen singing about a long lost love that he misses while wondering if she still thinks about him sometimes.

The Joey Moi-produced track was co-written by Morgan Wallen alongside Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne.

The country music superstar first started teasing fans about “7 Summers” when he was nominated by Jake Owen for the ‘Deep Cuts Challenge,’ that went viral on Instagram during quarantine.

“Got nominated by Jake Owen to post a demo. I’m somewhat on the fence about putting this one on my next record. Y’all let me know what you think,” Wallen wrote alongside the demo of the song in an Instagram story. Just a few weeks later, On July 25, Wallen wrote on Twitter, “Well I just looked around on social media and seems like y’all want me to drop Seven Summers.”

After fans begged for the song to be released, Wallen announced via TikTok that the song was coming out on August 14.

“7 Summers” follows his latest chart-rising single “More Than My Hometown,” both of which are expected to appear on the Tennessee native’s highly-anticipated sophomore album, which will serve as the follow up to 2018’s If I Know Me.

The new father recently promised his fans that his forthcoming sophomore album will be out within the next “6 months.” Wallen described the new album as more “mature” and “personal.”

The country superstar also performed “More Than My Hometown,” “Whiskey Glasses,” “Talkin’ Tennessee” and two covers including Jason Isbell’s “Cover Me Up” and Jason Aldean’s “You Make It Easy.”
