Miranda Lambert may be the author of a brand-new cookbook, but she’s certainly not the only one in her household rolling up her sleeves in the kitchen.
“My Husband’s Actually The Cook Of Our Family”
It turns out that her handsome husband, former police officer Brendan McLoughlin, who she wed in 2019, has a knack for cooking too. He even has a few recipes featured in his famous wife’s book titled Y’all Eat Yet?: Welcome to the Pretty B*tchin’ Kitchen.
“My husband’s actually the cook of our family, so it’s pretty funny that I have a cookbook,” Miranda Lambert acknowledged during an interview with ACCESS. “He is from a family that really cooks a lot, and it’s very much Italian influenced because they’re from New York, so I’ve learned a lot from them.”
“I got to learn how to make vodka sauce, and they let me pour the vodka, and I’m like, ‘Oh, one for you, one for me,’” she added with a smile.
Miranda Lambert’s Husband Brendan Has A Big Passion For Cooking
Brendan McLoughlin has such a big passion for cooking that Lambert even said he had a strong reaction when he found out she would be releasing a cookbook.
“He laughed,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “He was like, ‘Wait a minute. I do all of the cooking and the cleaning. How do you have a cookbook?’”
But, Lambert informed that while her other half can handle the oven, the pair have very different cooking styles. Just as he introduced her to Italian foods, she has shown him the Southern ways of making special dishes.
“This kind of cooking is not what he’s used to and what he’s grown up around. He’s very much Italian-influenced. I don’t think he has ever had cornbread and now he has had so much cornbread since he met me,” she joked. “We’ve taught Brendan and his family about our Southern ways, so it’s been fun ….we have such different styles because we’re from such different places with my Texas roots…. Brendan will try anything. He’s very brave…. I love that about him. And he’s like, you guys sure do fry a lot of stuff.”
Miranda Lambert’s Mom’s Meatloaf Is A Family Staple
Speaking of McLoughlin trying new dishes, Lambert also shared the recipe that took the couple to the next step. She says her mother’s meatloaf, a staple that her family dubs The LOAF, was the meal she cooked for McLoughlin’s family and the way to his heart.
“I cooked for Brendan’s family. It’s my mom’s, it’s Bev’s famous meatloaf. It was the editor’s pick in Southern Living, like, a decade ago, and she now calls it famous, my mom. But it’s definitely a staple,” Lambert shared. “It’s one of those when anybody’s ever been dating someone serious or brings them home, they’ll either bring ’em to mom’s house to have The LOAF or call her and ask her how to make it because that’s how you’re getting serious with somebody. So yeah, when I first met Brendan’s family, it’s one of the first things I made for them.”
Lambert later told Music Mayhem, “My mom’s meatloaf is definitely the standout dish in the book. That’s been famous in our family for a long time and is always what gets requested for special occasions, so it’s been really fun to see it shine on such a bigger scale.”
“We Cook Together”
And while Lambert found the way to Brendan’s heart through his stomach, she says she enjoys watching him cook for her.
“We cook together. He’s a better cook than I am,” she admits while speaking to EXTRA. “He’s fun to watch and to cook, and sometimes he doesn’t wear a shirt, and I like that.”
Y’all Eat Yet?: Welcome to the Pretty B*tchin’ Kitchen arrived on April 25 and marks Lambert’s first-ever book. The book acts as part memoir and part cookbook, and gives readers a look inside Lambert’s life at home and on the road. Readers will also receive 50 recipes while learning about Lambert’s Texas roots and how the strong women in her family shaped her life and career through their words of wisdom and home cooking.
The cookbook went on to become a New York Times bestseller. “I was shocked, but so thankful that the stories of our sisterhood resonated with so many other people. That made it even more special, getting to share the celebration with my mom and the ya yas,” she shared of her reaction to becoming a New York Times best-selling author.
