On Saturday, May 22, Wallen shared an emotion-filled new song that comes in the form of a phone call to his mom, Lesli Wallen. The personal lyrics find the singer giving his mom an update on his life and all of the things that he has gone through recently. The song is unreleased and comes in the form of an acoustic performance on Wallen’s Instagram.
“Wrote this song for my mom a while ago. Seemed like an appropriate time to share it,” Wallen said before playing the song.
I thought you should know that all those prayers you thought you wasted on me
Must’ve finally made their way on through
I thought you should know I got me a new girl down in Jefferson City and she lets me fish whenever I want to
Yeah, I’m still proud of where I came from
Still you’re only damn son
Can you believe I’m on the radio?
Just thought you should know, Thought you should know, Thought you should know
Previously, it was unknown who wrote the song other than Wallen, that is until yesterday (May 23), when Lambert commented on the photo thanking Wallen for letting her and Nicolle Galyon co-write the song with him.
“?Thanks for letting me and @nicatnitemusic write this special song with you,” Lambert commented on the clip. “Sounds great.”

In addition to Lambert’s comment, a star-studded list of country singers commented on the post showcasing their support for Wallen and the new song. Among the comments are artists like Jason Aldean, Dustin Lynch, Old Dominion, Colbie Calliat, Cole Swindell, Ernest and more who praised Wallen’s unreleased new track.
“@morganwallen ??? that’s great man and u sing the shit out of it,” Aldean commented.
“What a song. Love it brother!” Swindell added before Lynch commented, “Hell yes.”
“Damn, dude. Pretty awesome ??,” Old Dominion wrote.
Additionally, Wallen’s performance of “Thought You Should Know” came just days after he returned to the stage for the first time since early February, popping up at Kid Rock’s Big Honky Tonk & Steakhouse on Wednesday evening (May 19) in Nashville. His surprise appearance included performances of his chart-topping single, “Whiskey Glasses,” and the fan-favorites “Sand In My Boots” and “Wasted On You” from his multi-week No.1 album, Dangerous: The Double Album.
